A Court of and Hypothesis Chapter
Chapter 497
STONEVALE
THIRD POV
The room had become crowded.
What had started as a council meeting was now something else entirely.

Every elder who had rushed out of the hall now stood inside or just outside Janet’s chambers, staring at the woman lying motionless on the floor.
Silence hung heavily over the room.
Not the respectful silence reserved for mourning.
The uneasy kind.
The kind that came when nobody understood what they were looking at.
Janet lay exactly where Wyatt had found her.
Her body was stretched partially on its side, one arm bent awkwardly beneath her, the other resting near her chest.
Her eyes were still open.
Frozen.
Staring toward nothing.
The sight alone was unsettling enough to make even some of the older council members
uncomfortable.
Because Janet was not an ordinary wolf.
For decades, she had been one of the most feared and mysterious people in Stonevale.
Whether they liked her or not, everyone respected the fact that she always seemed to know things before they happened.
She always appeared prepared.
Always appeared one step ahead.
Yet now she was dead.
And somehow it looked almost… casual.

Chapter 497
Elder Stephen crouched beside the body, studying her carefully.
Another member stood near the bed, examining the room.
Nothing appeared disturbed.
The furniture remained in place.
The curtains were untouched.
The shelves had not been overturned.
Even the blanket on the bed looked as though it had been left exactly where it belonged.
There were no signs of a struggle.
No broken objects, no claw marks, no blood.
Nothing.
The entire room looked as though Janet had simply fallen over and died.
Which made even less sense.
Darren stood near the doorway, staring at her.
His face remained tense.
The shock from earlier had slowly begun to change into something else.
Something darker… something angrier.
His eyes narrowed.
His jaw tightened.
And eventually, he spoke.
“This was them.”
Several heads turned toward him.
Darren stepped forward.
“This was Blood Crescent.”
The room immediately reacted.
Some elders exchanged confused looks.
Others frowned.

Chapter 497
Elder Stephen slowly rose from beside Janet’s body.
“What are you talking about?”
Darren pointed toward Janet.
“This happened after the attack.”
His voice grew harder.
“Alpha Alexander and his wolves invaded our territory.”
Nobody interrupted him.
“They came here to destroy everything.“.
His eyes swept across the room.
“You think they stopped outside?”
He shook his head.
“No.”
The anger in his voice was becoming increasingly obvious now.
“They got inside.”
Several elders frowned more deeply.
Darren continued.
“They must have penetrated the pack house somehow and found Janet alone.”
His gaze returned to the body.
“She was defenseless. This is murder… she’s not even a warrior.”
The accusation hung heavily in the room.
For a moment, nobody answered.
Then Elder Stephen folded his arms.
His expression had become noticeably skeptical.
“Darren.”
Darren looked toward him.
Stephen gestured toward the body.

Chapter 497
“I know we all have a problem with the attack, but we still need to use our heads.“.
The room fell quiet again.
“If a wolf killed Janet, there would be evidence.”
His voice remained calm.
“There would be blood.”
He pointed toward the floor.
“There would be damage.”
Then toward the walls.
“There would be signs of a struggle.”
His eyes narrowed.
“What exactly are you saying?”
Several elders nodded.
Because the question was reasonable.
Nothing about Janet’s room resembled a murder scene of that nature.
Even Darren himself had to know that.
Yet Darren remained completely unmoved.
In fact-
Something dangerous flashed across his face.
Then suddenly, he laughed.
The sound startled several people.
Not because it was loud.
But because it sounded completely wrong in the current situation.
Darren shook his head.
“It doesn’t matter.”
Wyatt frowned.
“What doesn’t matter?”

Darren turned fully toward the council members.
“It doesn’t matter whether they actually did it.”
The room went still.
For several seconds, nobody spoke.
Only Wyatt smirked as he began to understand where Darren was going.
Several elders simply stared at him.
Unsure they had heard correctly.
Darren’s eyes sharpened.
His shock was gone now.
Replaced entirely by ambition.
By strategy.
By opportunity.
He pointed toward Janet’s body again.
“This is useful.”
The statement immediately earned horrified looks.
Even Wyatt looked uncertain now.
“Darren…” one elder began.
But Darren continued speaking.
“We were already attacked.”
His voice grew stronger.
“Blood Crescent already violated our territory.”
He spread his arms slightly.
“Now Janet is dead.”
The room remained silent.
And then Darren smiled.
A cold smile.

Chapter 497
The kind that made almost everyone immediately uncomfortable.
“They’ve handed me exactly what I need.”
Elder Stephen’s expression darkened.
“What are you planning this time?”
Darren’s eyes gleamed.
“We pin this on Blood Crescent.”
Several voices erupted at once.
“What?”
“Have you lost your mind?”
“That’s absurd.”
Darren ignored them.
Their opinions didn’t matter here.
Crowned or not, he was still acting as alpha of the pack.
His decision in this matter was final.
But he still explained himself because he wanted to hear himself say it out loud.
“If Janet dies because of Blood Crescent-”
He pointed toward the body.
“Then everything changes.”
The elders stared.
Darren continued.
“The narrative changes.”
His voice was growing more animated now.
More confident.
“Instead of Stonevale being on the defensive…”
He paused.
“We become the victims too.”

Some elders looked genuinely interested now.
Because they could see exactly where this was heading.
Darren began pacing slowly.
“Alpha Alexander loses the moral high ground.”
His eyes hardened.
“He loses public sympathy.”
Another step.
“He loses leverage.”
Another.
“And most importantly-”
His smile returned.
“Alexander becomes too occupied defending himself to think about seeking revenge for the death
of his Luna.”
The room fell completely silent.
Not because they agreed… at least most of them would never agree to that.
The calculation was so shameless that, for a moment, nobody knew how to respond.
Even Elder Stephen simply stared at him.
For once, he had nothing to say to Darren.
Disbelief was written plainly across his face.
And Darren stood there in the center of Janet’s chambers, looking down at the dead woman on the floor as though her death had just become another weapon he intended to use.
Of course.
