“You know…”
His tone became noticeably lighter.
“I’ve been wondering about something.”
Conrad looked at him.
“What exactly did Alpha Jason do to make you this angry?” Damon asked.
Conrad leaned back in his chair, a smug smile slowly returning to his face.
“Jason?” Conrad said. “Jason is merely collateral damage.”
Damon frowned. “What?” Damon asked.
“My problem isn’t with Alpha Jason,” Conrad replied.
Conrad’s eyes hardened.
“My problem is with the Luna of Blood Crescent.”
Damon stared at him.
“What do you mean?” Damon asked.
Conrad nodded once. “She’s my target.”
There was a brief silence before Damon spoke again.
“I’m confused,” Damon said.
“What’s confusing about it?” Conrad asked, gesturing dismissively.
Damon folded his arms. “If your problem is with the Luna of Blood Crescent, then what does Silver Hollow have to do with any of this?” Damon asked.
He tilted his head. “You’re tearing another pack apart to get at one woman,” Damon added.
“Not just any woman,” Conrad said with a faint smile.
His expression darkened.
“Patrick trusted me,” Conrad continued.
The words came out calmly, but there was bitterness beneath them.

“He was my Alpha,” Conrad said.
His fingers drummed once against the armrest.
“And now he’s dead.”
Damon remained quiet.
“I’ve looked into everything surrounding his death,” Conrad continued.
He leaned forward slightly.
“Patrick told me enough before everything happened,” Conrad said.
His gaze became distant for a moment.
“Afterward, I investigated the rest myself.”
He looked back at Damon.
“Witnesses saw Faye entering the house where Patrick and his mother were later found dead,” Conrad said.
His jaw tightened.
“She was the last known outsider to go in.”
“And afterward…” He shrugged once. “They were both dead.”
Damon listened without interrupting.
“I don’t care that no one can prove it,” Conrad said. “I know she killed him.”
His voice remained calm.
“And I intend to make her pay for it.”
Damon was still trying to connect the pieces.
“But…” Damon said.
He frowned.
“That still doesn’t explain Silver Hollow,” Damon said.
Conrad’s smile returned.
“It does,” Conrad replied.

He stood and slowly walked toward the map hanging on the wall.
“Faye was born in Silver Hollow,” Conrad said.
He tapped the territory with one finger.
“Her parents still live there,” Conrad continued.
Another tap.
“Her sister is the Luna of Silver Hollow.”
His smile grew colder.
“Destroying this pack hurts her,” Conrad said.
He looked over his shoulder.
“I could kill a few warriors,” Conrad said.
He shrugged.
“I could send assassins after her family,” he added.
Another shrug.
“But none of that compares to forcing her to watch her birthplace collapse.”
Damon remained silent.
“When Silver Hollow falls…” Conrad began.
“When its economy crumbles…”
“When its allies abandon it…”
“When Jason loses everything his ancestors spent years building…”
He smiled.
“Faye will know it happened because of her,” Conrad said.
His voice dropped.
“She’ll live with that.”
The room became quiet.
After a few moments, Damon let out a slow breath.

“I understand wanting revenge,” Damon said.
He nodded once.
“I really do.”
“But I still think you’re making this harder than it needs to be.”
Conrad raised an eyebrow.
“Oh?” Conrad asked.
“If this woman is your target…” Damon said.
He spread his hands.
“Why not go after her directly?” Damon asked.
Conrad didn’t answer.
“Or better yet…” Damon continued.
“Why not target Blood Crescent?”
He frowned.

“If hurting Faye is your goal, wouldn’t that make more sense than dragging Silver Hollow into
this?” Damon asked.
Conrad opened his mouth as though to dismiss the suggestion.
Then Damon suddenly stopped speaking.
His eyes narrowed.
A slow smile spread across his face.
“…Wait,” Damon said.
Conrad’s expression changed almost imperceptibly.
Damon looked at him more carefully.
“No…” Damon said.
He chuckled softly.
“That’s it, isn’t it?” Damon asked.

Conrad’s smug smile disappeared.
