Chapter 533
FAYE
I didn’t sleep much after we returned to bed.
Even though I eventually drifted off, it wasn’t the kind of sleep that left me feeling rested. Every time I closed my eyes, fragments of the dream replayed themselves in my mind.
I woke several times during the night only to find Alexander still beside me, one arm resting securely
around my waist as though he instinctively knew I needed the reassurance.
By the time morning finally arrived, I felt more exhausted than I had the night before.
I had barely begun to settle into a deeper sleep when a hurried knock echoed through our chamber.
I stirred immediately.
Alexander was already awake.
Another knock followed almost instantly.
“Alpha!” Cole’s voice called urgently from the other side of the main door.
Alexander sat up.
“What is it?” he called.
“It’s urgent.”
There was a brief pause before the guard continued.
Alexander glanced at me.
I was already awake, watching him.
The look we exchanged lasted only a second.
Neither of us needed to say what we were both thinking.
r
We had planned to visit Helen first thing this morning.
Apparently…
Claim
That would have to wait.
Alexander pushed the blanket aside and climbed out of bed without another word.
He didn’t even bother changing properly.
He reached for the first T–shirt he could find lying across the chair in the corner of the room and pulled it
over his head before tugging it down over the sweatpants he had slept in.
His hair was still slightly messy from sleep.

Normally, he would have taken a few extra minutes to get ready before facing the pack.
“Not today.
Claims
Whatever was happening outside had clearly been serious enough for Cole to come knocking directly on the Alpha’s chamber door at this hour.
Alexander slipped on a pair of shoes before turning back toward me.
“I’m sorry,” he said quietly.
I shook my head. “It can’t be helped.”
His expression softened.
“I’ll deal with this as quickly as I can,” he said.
I nodded.
“We’re still going to see Helen today,” I said.
“We will,” he confirmed.
He walked over to the bed and leaned down just enough to press a quick kiss against my forehead.
“I promise.”
Then he straightened again.
Without another word, he crossed the room and opened the door.
The door closed behind him.
Silence settled over the room again.
I remained where I was for another minute, staring absentmindedly at the closed door.
Hopefully…
Whatever had happened wouldn’t take long.
I had no intention of allowing anything to stop us from seeing Helen today.
Not after last night.
Not after that dream.
Eventually, I pushed the blankets aside and climbed out of bed.
There wasn’t much point sitting around worrying.
I headed into the bathroom and turned on the shower.
୮
The warm water did little to wash away the uneasiness lingering inside me, but at least it helped clear the last traces of sleep from my mind.
Chapter 533-
Claim
After drying off, I dressed in a simple pair of fitted black trousers and a blouse before tying my hair into a loose ponytail.
By the time I finished, nearly an hour had passed.
Surely…
Whatever emergency had come up should have been dealt with by now.
I left our chambers and stepped into the hallway
The corridor was already busy with servants beginning their morning routines.
Several greeted me politely as they passed.
I smiled back automatically while my eyes searched the corridor for Alexander.
He wasn’t there.
I continued walking.
Perhaps he’d gone to his office.
Or maybe…
He was downstairs.
I had barely reached the large window overlooking the front courtyard when raised voices drifted inside
through the slightly open glass.
I slowed.
The voices weren’t close enough for me to distinguish every word.
Curiosity got the better of me.
I stepped closer to the window and looked outside.
Alexander stood in the middle of the courtyard.
He wasn’t alone.
Four men stood around him.
Two appeared to be warriors.
One looked like an elder.
The fourth man…
He was the one doing most of the talking.
Even from this distance, I could tell the conversation wasn’t going well.
The man’s arms moved sharply as he spoke, pointing repeatedly toward something beyond the gates.
Chapter 523
Alexander remained perfectly still.
“His posture was rigid.
His expression unreadable.
The man continued speaking.
His voice carried faintly through the open window, though only scattered words reached me.
“…unacceptable…”
“…cannot continue…”
“…our families…”
I couldn’t make out the rest.
The distance was simply too great.
Another man attempted to say something.
Alexander cut him off with only a single sentence.
Again…
I couldn’t hear what he said.
The first man answered almost immediately.
His tone was noticeably louder this time.
More agitated.
I frowned.
Whatever this meeting was about…
It clearly wasn’t a routine report.
The man’s voice rose again.
This time Alexander moved.
It happened so quickly that I almost didn’t register it.
One second he had been standing perfectly still.
The next…
He had crossed the distance between them.
His hand shot forward.
୮
He grabbed the man by the front of his neck with enough force to lift him slightly off balance.

<Chapter 537-
My breath caught.
“Even from where I stood…
I saw Alexander’s eyes flash.
That familiar golden glow burned brightly for only a moment.
The air around the group seemed to freeze.
None of the other men moved.
No one stepped forward.
No one attempted to interfere.
Alexander said something.
His voice was too low for me to hear.
The man’s face had gone pale.
Then…
Alexander shoved him away with enough force to send him crashing onto the ground.
The sound echoed faintly across the yard.
The man landed hard before quickly scrambling backward.
The other men remained exactly where they were.
