A Warrior's Second Chance (Faye and Alexander) novel Chapter 558

end

Cause and Effects

She felt it just after lunchtime; 15 wolves all suddenly reject the pack at once, and hissed in pain, but knew there was more to come, because she knew in an instant it was all the Gamma-blooded wolves. She, as the Luna of the pack, could tell because there was always a tiny connection between a Luna and any Gamma blood wolf in the pack, even if they weren’t part of the leadership or hierarchy of the pack.

She braced herself for what she knew was about to come, all their family members that would follow their decision, some of those out there in the pack that had the Gamma bloodline didn’t recognize it and opted to take their mother or father’s bloodline that of a warrior or Elite or omega ever, dropping the gamma part of them completely.

It kind of made them look like blended families when, in fact, they were not. “Here we go.” She murmured into her office where she sat, and just a minute later, 35 others severed from the pack: children and Mates, whole families were leaving the pack, over what had just gone down between their Alpha and the pack’s Gamma.

This pack was now in a deficit of 60 wolves in less than 24 hours, 9 from last night, 1 this morning and 50 now. She breathed through it and connected with Paul ’50 just rejected the pack’

‘I was told by them they were going to, they elected one from all of them to voice it to me, my cousin Tim.

I told him to tell them which pack to go to. Apparently, Louise had already beaten me to it. She sent a

group text to them right before she left. Paul stated, ‘How are you doing?’

‘It hurt like a bitch but… I knew it was coming. It will hurt him more. That’s 60 in less than 24 hours since

Christy’s callous words last night, and again today to you, those very words she stated to you is what did it, ‘We don’t want wolves like that here, that implies your bloodline, not yourself or your sister specifically

‘I know that, and they all understood that as well. That’s why the mass exodus, 5% of the pack gone in the

blink of an eye.’ Paul sighed.

‘Carol’s parents?’ she asked.

‘They’re also likely to go when we do. They only had Carol and her sister, so… My parents left long ago, so all my extended kin have just vacated the pack, which will tell Anthony I’m likely to as well. Because if not one Gamma relation will stay in a pack,

‘I’ll see it as they think the leadership isn’t worth supporting, and after my words just now, he also knows I’m thinking the same thing. Kendrick’s brain right now is on fire, and he is going to tell Anthony I’m only still here because you are right now, and he ain’t wrong.

‘He’s going to be looking for you to try and bring them back. Go after them any minute now, she sighed.

‘And I’ll tell him if he brings Louise back, I’ll consider it. A losing battle because he doesn’t even know where she is, I also made myself plainly clear that it was both him and Christy that insulted the bloodline. Christy doesn’t get it; that even an Alpha and Luna can alienate their own pack and see them lose wolves; she just learned the hard way.

alt

Anthony right now, also understands this has nothing to do with you, you’re still here. That, what I said downstairs and was heard by many and spread wide through the pack, was a Gamma expressing his concern for a Luna-ranked wolf he’s attached to, which is my right to do so, and what I voiced I was not wrong in even my assessment of him towards you’

‘He could be coming for you.’ Mischa muttered. ‘He could see it as you asked them to leave’

‘Let him, I’ll just reject him as my Alpha and take Carol and leave. It wasn’t treason, just the honest, brutal truth,’ Paul stated.

‘Don’t wait on me. If you want to go before I do, just cut your losses, and we’ll meet up in the Rising Blue Lotus in a few days. I want to see if there’s more fallout’

‘I’ll talk to Carol, her parents; they are here in the suite right now, he told her.

‘Oh sorry, I didn’t realize,’ she apologized. ‘We can talk later.’ She cut the link for him to be present in that conversation with his Mate and her parents.

She walked from her accounting office through the packhouse heading for her suite, to see there was a lot of chatter about the sudden leaving of all the Gammas in the pack. She wondered how Christy was going to handle Anthony now, because she couldn’t blame anyone else for her own words last night or this

morning.

No Alpha wanted to lose that many wolves in a pack, it was akin to a large-scale rogue attack coming out

of nowhere, or a battle between two packs. The pack was only 1200 strong, or now 1140, and when she

went it could well see him lose more. She thought about that, who would likely leave this pack when she

did.

Probably Brent and his family because Christy had wronged him, and losing a pack doctor was not a good thing; it could take years to get another one, and that meant any attacks on the pack could see more warriors die, because there was no doctor to patch the wounds that couldn’t be healed by their wolves.

She knew the Elders were going to stick it out, could well already have a plan and were like her sitting back and just waiting to enact it for themselves. They had the evidence that Christy had committed actual

treason now.

Mischa also knew that this was why Christy had done nothing wrong once, since being seated in that seat of Luna, had actually done her job as the Luna, because the Elders had her in their sights and could turn on her at any given moment. The only jobs she wasn’t doing was counseling the pack members, especially the teens. Letti and Rebecca were actually doing that and because they, in Rebecca’s words, couldn’t trust Christy to do it.

Even here, and now, they could use this, her stupidly spoken words against her to tear her apart and destroy everything she wanted. Mischa walked into her suite and called Nicholas, “Hey Nick.”

“Hey Misch, shits finally hitting the fan up there I see,” he remarked.

“Yes, 50 just went rogue, all gamma-blooded and their families; on their way to you, I believe.” She told

alt

him. “I just thought I’d give you a heads up is all.

“All good, I’m prepared. What’s that Mate of yours doing?”

“I don’t know, that’s not my concern. I, however, told him not to ask for my help. Christy caused the problem, and I’m not cleaning up her mess.”

Nick snorted, “She still hasn’t learned anything then I see.”

“Nope, I think she got even more cocky, thinks she’s now untouchable because she’s actually pregnant.” She shook her head. “Her words, however, this morning offended the entire Gamma bloodline.”

“Hmm, I and my unit heard them. Louise was here in the office with us waiting for that call. We opted to hear it, just to see exactly what was going on there. Kevin’s eyes closed and he shook his head. Even he understood it was a bloodline insult.”

“Hmm, I wonder if she said it on purpose though, trying to get rid of those 16 Gammas left in the pack, so there was no one here to read her anymore. I don’t think she thought about their families or just how many would go with them.”

“Yeah, ‘not very bright.’ Were Louise’s words when she got off the phone.” Nick commented, “On the note of you leaving, I’ve got your new pack sorted out. We were unaffiliated but known to each other for two

years, it’s about 1500 strong, and we just became allied last month, so it’s not a pack Anthony would know,

but is allied to us now.”

“Okay, we can discuss it when I come down. Has Granny met him?” she asked curiously. Granny’s approval rating was high on everyone’s list. That she-wolf could read people.

She heard Jeremy laugh. “Yes, smart man brought a case of spiced rum just for her. She likes him, called

him a good lad and patted him right on the arm as she ordered me to take that rum to her place,

threatened to beat me with her cane if took a bottle.”

Mischa chuckled softly herself and ended the call a minute later.

She spent the afternoon sitting in her office documenting what had happened and then wrote a note in Louise’s file. Final note for pack file: Louise, the second Gamma heir to the pack, has left in the middle of the night without telling even the pack’s Gamma; her older brother, she has rejected the pack and its

Alpha,

I have spoken with her myself and Louise voiced that she is not coming back, stated she rejected the pack due to Luna Christy’s attitude and disrespect to the pack, disrespectfully spoken words to herself, that wolves like her were not needed inside this pack.

The fallout of those very words have seen all the Gamma-blooded wolves and their families within Night Whispers all reject Alpha Anthony and the pack, and leave due to the disrespect shown by Luna Christy, to the entire Gamma bloodline; is how it was taken. Luna Mischa, 1st Mate and Luna to Alpha Anthony. (Not the current reigning Luna.)

Then she marked Louise’s file as permanently closed and locked it with her Luna’s pin code for sealing

files th herself. Anthony and she supposed Christy now, could do that. If Anthony was unhappy about it, he’d have to come and speak with her.

No others would be allowed to access it or unlock it from this point on. Only her pin could unlock it. He could start a new file if he liked, but he couldn’t reopen this one without her permission. She also knew that he would get a notification of her sealing a file to prompt him to read the final log as to why it was closed out.

Christy, if given this access, would also get the notification as well. That was going to annoy him and her, Mischa thought absently, but so be it. It was the truth of the matter. She would start closing them all out over the course of the day. Anthony was going to hate that, he was probably still trying to think of a way to get them to come back.

Christy apologizing wasn’t going to work because every single one of them would be feeling her out, for if

she was truly apologetic or not. Something she knew Christy wasn’t going to be. She was likely happy they were all gone because she probably didn’t realize what it said to other packs, if there were no Gammas in

a pack.

Which was, that the she-wolves in it weren’t protected, that it was an unhealthy pack and could see many

of their own allies rescinding alliance deals as well from Christy’s stupid words. She really did need to learn not to be such a self-righteous, self-centered bitch.

She stood watching as Paul and Carol loaded up their cars with their final boxes the following day. Letti and Rebecca were out there, they’d already tried to talk Carol into talking Paul round. Neither Anthony nor Kendrick or Dereck could do it. Carol’s parents had heard what was going down, and that Christy didn’t want him as a Gamma and that Anthony had tried to go out there and find a new pack Gamma and stated, “Then it’s clear you’re not wanted, let’s just go,” and that had been it.

Paul and linked to her that he and Carol were leaving, just taking whatever they could box up and fit in his truck and Carol’s car, and would be leaving first thing in the morning. He didn’t want to go during the night because Carol was with their first pup, he’d kept it from everyone because of what was going on, and she was only three weeks along.

She’d walked into Anthony’s office with Paul and Carol that morning, and he’d looked at the three of them,

only to see Carol’s parents also following them in, and he’d shaken his head. “Don’t do this, everything will

be fine.” He understood what it meant.

“Famous last words,” Mischa had stated simply herself. “I have approved of them leaving, even managed to find out from Louise where she is seeing as I’ve never done or said anything to her that is rude or disrespectful. Never offended an entire bloodline.” She’d shaken her head.
