Chapter 553-2
FAYE
I listened until Alexander finished.
His explanation made sense. It wasn’t defensive or rushed.
I folded my hands together on my lap.
“I don’t think she was lying,” I said.
Alexander raised an eyebrow. “She?” he said. “Interesting.”
Realizing my mistake, I quickly brushed it aside.
“Look, I’m not saying you’re lying either.”
He continued watching me, waiting for me to continue.
“I just think…” I began before letting out a quiet breath. “I think something is wrong.”
He remained calm.
“Something is definitely wrong somewhere,” I repeated.
I leaned forward slightly.
“If what those people are claiming is true in any way…”
I paused.
“…then whatever is happening has already gone too deep.”
Alexander remained silent.
“And if that’s the case,” I continued more seriously, “it’s only going to get uglier from here.”
1 held his gaze.
“The attack on me yesterday might just be the beginning.”
For a brief moment, neither of us spoke.
Then I noticed the subtle change in his expression.
It wasn’t anger
Not exactly.
But something in my words had clearly struck him the wrong way.
“So…” Alexander said quietly. “You still believe what they’re claiming.”
r
His voice remained calm
..
“That’s not what 1-1 began.
“It means,” he continued, “that after everything I’ve told you, you still believe they’re telling the truth
1 immediately shook my head.
“I didn’t mean it like that”
Alexander sighed.

He rubbed his forehead slowly before looking back at me.
“You know what? You don’t have to explain yourself,” he said.
His tone became softer.
“You have every right to question me if you think I’m speaking without proof”
I opened my mouth to respond, but he had already reached for the tablet lying on his desk
He unlocked it and began tapping across the screen.
For several moments, the only sound in the office was the faint tapping of his fingers against the glass.
He scrolled through several documents before stopping.
Without another word, he looked up and handed the tablet to me.
I accepted it.
“This,” Alexander said, “is the record of every project I’ve approved for the eastern border since I became Alpha,”
My eyes moved across the screen.
Project approvals, construction authorizations, repairs, supply allocations, funding releases.
There were receipts for everything.
Before I could properly process what I was seeing, Alexander walked toward one of the large archive cabinets lining the wall.
He unlocked it.
After searching through several storage boxes, he pulled one out and carried it back toward me.
He placed it carefully on the table in front of me.
“The hard copies,” Alexander explained.
I looked down at the box.
It was filled with neatly organized files.
+26 Points
“Every pctition and report that reached my office from every border within Blood Crescent is archived.”
He rested one hand on the edge of the box.
“Go through them yourself,” he said.
He gestured toward the tablet still in my hands.
“Compare the paperwork.”
His tone was formal now.
“Cole also has digital copies of every petition and every report we’ve ever received,” he added. “If you want those records as well, ask him,”
His words lingered in the room.
Then he let out a slow breath.
“I’m tired, Faye.”
His voice sounded noticeably heavier now.
“It has been a long day,” he said.
He glanced briefly at his watch. “I just want to take a bath… and get some rest.”
There wasn’t any anger in his voice.
Even so…
Something about the way he avoided looking at me for those last few seconds made my chest tighten.
