A Warrior's Second Chance (Faye and Alexander) novel Chapter 591

Chapter 522

Chapter 577

FAYE

Helen first showed Cole to his room before leading me to the other room.

I followed beside her quietly, taking in the familiar elegance of the mansion as we walked. Everything about the place carried Helen’s presence.

The carefully arranged decorations, the warmth of the rooms, even the way everything seemed perfectly placed.

When we reached the room Alexander and I would be staying in, Helen opened the door and allowed me to step inside first.

I expected her to simply show me the room and leave.

Instead, she walked in after me.

She didn’t seem to be in a hurry.

That surprised me.

Helen had always been someone who was constantly moving, constantly taking care of something. Seeing her slow down felt unusual.

She walked over to the couch near the window and sat down.

Then she looked at me.

“Thank you.”

I frowned slightly.

“For what?” I already had an idea why she was thanking me, but it made more sense to let her spell it out since it meant so much to her.

Her smile softened.

“For making sure everyone came today.”

I immediately shook my head. “I don’t think I deserve that much credit,” I said. And that was the truth

Helen raised an eyebrow. “I disagree.”

I laughed softly.

“Irene was already coming. Cole came because he wanted to. The only person who needed a little convincing was Alexander.”

That made her laugh. She didn’t even seem offended by that fact at all. She knew her son well enough to know it was next to impossible to get him to agree to anything like this.

“That sounds exactly like my son. I wasn’t sure he’d show up. But a part of me kept counting on you… He

can’t really say no to you,” Helen said with a quiet smirk.

wanted to argue that, but there was no point. It was funny how they all assumed I had Alexander wrapped around my finger.

I smiled.

For a few moments, we simply sat there laughing lightly about Alexander.

The atmosphere was easy.

The kind of conversation I never imagined I would have with her someday. This was the longest I had ever sat just talking and laughing with Helen.

After the laughter faded, Helen looked at me more carefully.

“How are you and Alexander doing?”

The question was simple, but the warmth behind it made me smile. Something told me it wasn’t as simple as it sounded.

“We’re fine,” I said. If there was more to it, I would be patient and wait for her to bring it up herself.

Helen nodded slowly. “I am glad to hear that.”

There was a brief silence. I let the moment breathe until Helen spoke again.

“I know this is a sensitive topic for you, Faye.”

The smile faded slightly from my face.

I looked at her.

She continued carefully. “Especially after what happened before.”

I immediately began to suspect where this conversation was going.

Helen’s expression softened. “I don’t want to make you uncomfortable, Faye.”

I remained silent.

“But I wanted to ask something.”

There was something in her tone that made me pay closer attention.

“Go ahead,” I said simply.

“Are you and Alexander trying for another child?”

My first instinct was to become defensive.

To remind her that something like that was private. That it was between Alexander and me

That there were some questions people simply shouldn’t ask. But strangely enough.

I wasn’t angry.

Maybe because I knew Helen better than before. She had gone the extra mile, putting herself in danger save my life

I knew the question wasn’t coming from judgment or pressure… It was coming from a place of love.

I cleared my throat.

“We haven’t really talked about it,” I said

Helen listened quietly.

“But if it happens…” I paused. “I think Alexander and I are open to the possibility.”

That was the easiest way I could put it. Alexander had not brought it up ever since, and neither had I. It was as if we had both decided to go with the flow.

Helen’s question made me wonder… Was I ready? Would Alexander be willing to talk about it?

I guessed I’d just have to find out later.

A small smile appeared on my face. “You’ll be the first to know if anything comes up.”

Helen nodded, smiling brightly.

But she still looked like there was something else she wanted to say.

I noticed the hesitation.

“Helen?”

She opened her mouth.

But instead of speaking, she suddenly coughed. It was light at first… Then it became worse.

“Helen.”

I immediately stood.

She tried to wave me off, but another cough interrupted her. “I’m fine.”

She barely managed to say it.

“You don’t sound fine.”

I moved toward the door. “I’ll get you some water.”

But Helen was already standing. Her expression had changed.

Before I could say a word, she moved into the bathroom connected to the room

I stood there for a moment, watching the closed door. Then I walked out of the room to get the water When I returned, I expected to hear Helen’s voice.

I didn’t.

The room was silent. I placed the glass of water on the table and looked toward the bathroom.

“Helen?”

No answer.

I walked closer and opened the door slightly.

The bathroom was empty.

My eyebrows pulled together.
