Chapter 591
BLOOD CRESCENT
FAYE
My fist flew toward Irene’s shoulder.
She caught my wrist before it landed, twisted it away, and came back with a kick aimed at my
side.
I blocked it with my forearm and immediately swept my leg toward hers.
She jumped over it.
The moment she landed, she drove another punch toward my face.
I ducked under it and laughed.
“You’re getting predictable.”
“Oh?” Irene smirked. “We’ll see about that.”
She came at me again without giving me time to breathe.
We circled each other across the training mat, exchanging punches, kicks, blocks, and counters. Around us, other warriors continued their own training, but neither of us paid them
any attention.
This wasn’t unusual.
Whenever Irene and I trained together, it always became a competition. After Kyle, Irene was
my next favourite competition.
Neither of us liked losing. She threw another kick. I caught her ankle, forcing her to hop once before she twisted out of my grip and shoved me backward with both hands.
I slid across the mat, steadied myself, then charged right back at her.
She laughed.
“There she is.”
At some point, my thoughts began to drift off. I barely heard her. My body was moving on instinct, but my mind wasn’t here.
It was somewhere else… with Helen.
Chapter 591
I blocked another strike before stepping aside. I still couldn’t understand it.
Out of everyone I knew… Helen was the last person I expected to accept defeat.
Clain
She had never been the kind of woman who simply folded her hands and waited for things to
happen.
She found solutions. That was what she did. When every healer would have given up on me…
When everyone believed there was no way I could survive…
Helen had refused to accept it. She had searched until she found an answer.
She had overturned everything people believed was possible. She had reached into dark magic that she herself had abandoned years ago.
She had paid a terrible price to save me. That was the Helen I knew.
So why was she different now?
Why was she sitting there calmly, counting down the days until her own death?
I couldn’t understand it… I wouldn’t understand it. There had to be another way.
There had to be. If Helen had been willing to turn the world upside down for me… If she had gone the extra mile to cheat death for me.
Why wasn’t she willing to do the same for herself?
The thought refused to leave me. It irritated me more every time it came back.
I barely noticed Irene’s fist until it tapped my shoulder.
“Point.”
I blinked.
“What?”
She folded her arms.
“I just hit you.”
I frowned.
“I blocked that.”
“You blocked the first one.”
< Chapter 591
She grinned.
“The second one landed.”
I let out a slow breath and rubbed the back of my neck.
“Again.”
She didn’t question it. She immediately raised her hands. We started moving again.
This time, I was more focused. At least for a while. I landed a clean punch against her
shoulder. She retaliated with a spinning kick that I narrowly avoided.
I laughed despite myself.
“You’ve been practising… I think Jeffery is doing a good job with you.”
She shrugged casually.
“You’ve become annoyingly difficult to beat,” I said.
She smirked. “I’ll take that as a compliment.”

She rushed me again. I stepped back. Our movements became faster. The energy between
us rose with every exchange.
Anyone watching would probably think we were completely absorbed in the fight.
Then Helen’s face flashed through my mind again. That would be the tenth time since we
started training.
I stopped… completely. Irene’s punch froze halfway.
She lowered her hands immediately.
“What happened?” Irene asked.
I looked at her without really seeing her.
“1…”
I shook my head.
“I think I’m done.”
She stared at me.
“Done?”
< Chapter 591
I nodded once.
“I’ve had enough for one day.”
She studied my face for a few seconds.
“What is wrong with you?”
The question was casual. I forced a small shrug.
“I just remembered something.”
“What?”
“I missed Sage’s call yesterday.”
The words came easily.
“I completely forgot to return it.”
I picked up the towel beside the mat and wiped the sweat from my face.
“And I have some paperwork I was supposed to finish.”
Irene accepted the answer without much thought.
“Oh.”
She stretched both arms over her head.
“I was wondering why you kept drifting off.”
I smiled weakly.
“Sorry.”
She waved dismissively. “It’s fine.”
Then she laughed. “I’m tired anyway.”
She rolled her shoulders.
