Chapter 595-1

SILVER HOLLOW

SAGE

I went to Jason’s office that evening because I needed to speak with him.

There was too much happening in Silver Hollow, and every day that passed made the situation worse. The council was losing patience, the pack was struggling, and Jason seemed determined to carry everything on his shoulders while refusing to listen to anyone around him.

I already knew he wouldn’t ask for my opinion, but I wasn’t going to keep sitting around. My mother had made a valid point earlier: if we didn’t act fast, we could literally run the pack into the ground.

I wasn’t about to let Silver Hollow fall during my reign as Luna.

History wouldn’t remember me like that.

I had watched him become more reckless over the past few weeks.

He was making decisions out of anger and desperation instead of thinking clearly. Even the very few elders who had always supported him were beginning to question his choices.

I knew I needed to talk to him… Share my ideas with him.

Whether he wanted to hear them or not, I was still his Luna.

I was still the person standing beside him.

At least, that was what I kept reminding myself.

When I reached his office door, I didn’t bother knocking.

I had walked through that door countless times before.

There was a time when I never had to think twice about entering Jason’s space. His office

had once felt like a place where we made decisions together.

Now, it felt like another place where I had to remind myself of the role I still held.

I pushed the door open.

At first, I didn’t understand what I was seeing.

(Chapter 595-1

My mind refused to accept it.

Jason was standing near his desk, and Alice was in his arms.

His lips were pressed against hers.

Her hands were around him as though she belonged there.

For several seconds, I stood completely still.

I had always known. That was the worst part.

Clash

I wasn’t surprised that Jason and Alice were involved. The whispers had been everywhere. The way they looked at each other. The way Alice had become far too comfortable around him. The way Jason stopped caring whether people noticed.

I had known.

But knowing and seeing were two completely different things.

There was no room left for excuses. No possibility that maybe people had misunderstood or that I was overthinking.

No chance to pretend that I was imagining things.

This was real.

Alice was the first one to notice me. Her entire expression changed.

The confidence she usually carried disappeared, replaced by shock.

“Jason,” she said quietly.

He turned. For a brief moment, I waited. I waited for guilt.

For shame. For some sign that he understood what he had done.

Instead, the first emotion I saw on his face was irritation.

Like I was the problem. Like my presence was an inconvenience.

“Why would you come in without knocking?” Jason said.

Something inside me tightened. I had spent months swallowing my anger. Months watching people whisper.

Months pretending I didn’t notice… even though sometimes I lost my patience and said something.

But I still looked away most of the time.

Hearing him ask me such a question… Seeing him look annoyed that I had walked in was the final insult.

My eyes moved to Alice.

All the humiliation I had carried suddenly had somewhere to go.

I stepped toward her.

My hand lifted before I even thought about it.

But Jason moved quickly.

He grabbed my wrist before I could reach her.

“Enough, Sage.”

I looked at him.

Slowly.

“Move, Jason.”

His grip tightened.

“You will not touch her.”

For a moment, I couldn’t believe what I was hearing.

Out of everything happening in that room, his concern was protecting her.

Not apologizing to me.
