Chapter 609
Chapter 609
FAYE
I watched Alexander’s expression change. The moment he realized I wasn’t answering, he knew He already knew I was hiding something from him.
The relief I had felt only moments ago disappeared. I had made a mistake.
A terrible one.
I had been so relieved about not having to carry the secret anymore that I had spoken without
thinking. I had assumed he was talking about Helen, that he already knew what was happening,
I I and now I was standing in front of him trying to explain something I was never/supposed to reve
Alexander didn’t say anything. He didn’t have to. The silence between us was enough. His eyes remained on me, waiting.
He was waiting for me to explain. I opened my mouth, but no words came out. How was I supposed to say this? How was I supposed to tell him that I knew Helen was dying and had kept from him?
How would Helen feel if she found out I hadn’t kept my promise?
I looked away, my fingers tightening slightly at my sides. I had promised her. I had promised I
wouldn’t tell him.
But this was Alexander. There was no way I could lie to him at this point.
Still, the promise weighed heavily on me.
“Alexander, I…”
My voice faded… I couldn’t finish. I looked at him, hoping somehow he would understand without
me having to say it.
But he didn’t. He simply waited. And somehow, that made it worse.
I already knew there was no way around this. I had already said too much, and I couldn’t pretend anymore. But even then, I couldn’t bring myself to look him in the eyes.
My gaze dropped to the floor. I swallowed hard, then forced the words out of my mouth.
“Helen… Helen is sick.”
The words came out quietly. The moment I said them, I felt the weight of them settle between us.

I waited for his reaction… For anger, for questions, for anything. But Alexander said nothing.
He was still looking at me… I could feel his gaze. And I knew he was waiting for me to say more.
But I couldn’t, not without breaking the promise completely.
“That’s all I can tell you.”
My voice came out weak. I looked at him again.
“Please… just call Helen and ask her yourself.”
I swallowed.
“I promised her I wouldn’t tell you, Alexander. I can’t break that promise,” I added, even though I already knew I had broken the promise.
The silence that followed was unbearable. I could hear my own heartbeat. I could see the anger in him now, the kind of anger he was forcing himself to hold back.
He didn’t argue. He didn’t even ask another question. He simply turned away.
I tried to reach for him.
“Alexander…”
He ignored the sound of my voice and walked out of the room. The door slammed shut behind
him.
I flinched slightly at the force of it. Then silence filled the room again.
I slowly sat down on the couch, my body suddenly feeling heavier than it had moments ago.
For a few seconds, I simply stared ahead, unable to move.
Then I lifted both hands and ran them through my hair, taking a slow, deep breath before exhaling.
I had broken my promise to Helen.
The realization settled over me again, heavier this time.
Helen had looked at me and asked me to keep this from Alexander. She had trusted me with something that had been eating away at her for so long.
And I had failed her.
“It’s not your fault, Faye,” my wolf, Nova, said gently inside my head.
I closed my eyes for a moment.
“know what you’re trying to do, I muttered. “It’s not that simple, Nova.”

I opened my eyes again and stared at the floor.
“It was a promise. She trusted me to keep it, and I broke it. And I also managed to get Alexander really upset while at it,” I said.
