Chapter 608

FAYE

I was sitting in the sitting room of our chambers with my laptop open in front of me, trying to focus on the work I had been putting off since earlier that day.

It wasn’t anything particularly difficult, but my attention kept drifting.

Every few minutes, I would find myself staring at the same page without actually reading what was written on it.

My mind was simply too busy.

There had been too many things happening lately, too many thoughts competing for my attention.

A soft knock on the door pulled me away from the screen. I looked up, wondering who was knocking this evening, but I didn’t bother asking.

“Come in.”

The door opened, and Martha stepped inside. She carried a small bottle in her hand. I immediately noticed it because it looked unfamiliar.

She walked toward me and gave a respectful bow.

“Luna.”

I closed my laptop slightly and looked at her.

“Yes, Martha?”

She stepped forward and held out the bottle. I already knew it was some kind of medicine because it was now obvious as I saw it more closely.

“Dr. Adams sent this for Alpha Alexander,” Martha said.

I frowned slightly as I looked at the bottle again.

“For Alexander?”

“Yes, Luna,” Martha said.

Martha carefully placed it in my hand.

“She sent someone to bring it for him just now.”

I turned the bottle over, looking at it. There was nothing written on it that gave me any clue about what the medicine was for.

“Did she say what it was?”

Martha shook her head.

“No, Luna. She only said it was for Alpha Alexander. She didn’t say anything else.”

I nodded slowly.

“Alright. Thank you, Martha.”

She bowed again.

“You’re welcome, Luna.”

Then she left.

The moment the door closed behind her, my eyes returned to the bottle in my hand.

Medicine… for Alexander.

I stared at it for a few seconds, as if the bottle itself was supposed to give me some kind of

answer.

That was strange. Alexander wasn’t sick… at least, not that I knew of. And neither was I.

So why would Dr. Adams be sending him medicine?

Then I remembered… Dr. Adams had been here earlier. At the time, I hadn’t thought too much about it. Alexander had asked her to come, but I never questioned why. I had assumed it was something related to the clinic or something he needed her opinion on.

But now…

I looked at the bottle again.

Could this be about Helen?

The thought appeared before I could stop it. I immediately sat up straighter.

Maybe Alexander had found out. The possibility was there.

Maybe after everything that happened, he had finally found out something was wrong and had gone to Dr. Adams for help.

My fingers tightened slightly around the bottle. But then I dismissed the thought almost

immediately.

No. That didn’t make sense.

Dr. Adams wouldn’t be able to help with something like that. She was a healer, but she worked within what she knew. She understood medicine, herbs, and the physical side of things. She could treat injuries, illnesses, and things that had a medical explanation.

But what was happening with Helen… that wasn’t something simple herbs could fix. Whatever was happening to her was beyond that.

Dr. Adams would know that. So that couldn’t be it.

But if it wasn’t Helen, then what was it? Why was Alexander asking Dr. Adams for medicine?

The question stayed in my mind. I hated how suspicious I felt, but something about it didn’t sit right with me.

Before I could think about it any further, I heard the sound of the door opening.

I looked up and saw him.

Alexander stepped inside, and my eyes immediately moved to him.

He looked tired.

Not exhausted, but there was something about his expression that told me his evening had not gone as smoothly as he would have liked.

“Hey,” he said casually as he walked past me, heading toward the bedroom.

I stood from the couch and held the bottle out toward him.

“Dr. Adams sent this for you.”

He stopped and turned toward me. His eyes moved to the bottle before he took it from my hand.

“Thank you.”

I watched him for a moment. He looked at the bottle briefly.

That only made my curiosity grow. He didn’t even give me any reaction or try to clarify anything.

He rubbed at his forehead as he examined it.

“Did she tell you anything about the dosage?”

I shook my head.

“No. Martha only said Dr. Adams sent it for you.”

Alexander sighed.

“Then I’ll have to call and ask her directly.”

It was almost funny, the way he was talking to me casually, like we had talked about it together before.

He placed the bottle down.

I watched him quietly, and I could see the frustration, the tiredness… It immediately made my mind return to Helen. Because what else could be bothering him this much?

“Since when did you find out?”

The question left my mouth before I could stop myself.

Alexander looked at me, his expression changing slightly.

“Find out what?” he asked.

For a moment, I simply stared at him.

Was he really going to pretend? He was probably looking for a good way to put it. Maybe he thought I was going to be upset that he didn’t tell me earlier.

I folded my arms, studying his face.

“Don’t pretend with me, Alexander.”

His confusion didn’t disappear. If anything, it became more obvious. He was trying hard not to tell me the truth.

“Faye, what are you talking about?”

I almost sighed.

Of course, he was going to make me say it first.

“You know exactly what I’m talking about.”

But instead of the guilt or understanding I expected to see on his face, Alexander only looked more confused.

That made me hesitate. For a brief second, I wondered if I had misunderstood something.

Alexander watched me silently for a moment before his expression shifted slightly. It was as

if he had finally understood what I was referring to.

“The same day we went to Helen’s house. I thought I told you,” Alexander said.
