As the charity gala drew to a close, the host announced its successful conclusion.
Suddenly, with a click, the giant screen at the front of the hall lit up.
The guests, assuming it was a routine thank-you video or a series of interviews, politely quieted down and looked up.
Instead, a sharp, cruel female voice filled the room.
"Aunt Summer, you must know that even if you wear that dress, no one will give you a second look. Why bother offending everyone's eyes?"
The woman on the screen was Iris, and opposite her stood tonight's victim, Summer.
Those who had witnessed the earlier drama immediately recognized them.
Guests who were about to leave stopped in their tracks, their eyes glued to the screen. This was better than a reality show.
Everyone loved gossip, and they began whispering amongst themselves as they watched.
The video then cut to the hallway security footage. The two clips had been edited together, and the video ended by freezing on the moment Summer grabbed Iris's hair while Vincent held Iris protectively.
Just as Vincent and Iris were being led into the banquet hall, the video reached this exact point, showing Summer yanking Iris's hair and slapping her.
Both Vincent and Iris had been roughed up by security and were nursing their own injuries.
Iris, wincing in pain, wondered how a video of her and Summer ended up on the big screen.
As the shock wore off, she remembered the incident at the boutique. Someone must have filmed it.
Wait, that figure trying to break up the fight looked so familiar...
It was her!
Iris recognized one of the women as Janina, Ava's associate.
So Summer and Janina were in this together.
Remembering that day, Iris's face paled.
The wife of a jewelry tycoon scoffed loudly, "I guess it's trendy for mistresses to play the victim now."
"Why is she acting all wronged?"
"Does she have no shame?"
It was clear she was the one bullying Summer, yet she was twisting the story.
In that moment, everyone in the audience, regardless of their intelligence, started putting the pieces together.
Gradually, the room filled with whispers.
Many of them, especially the wealthy wives who despised mistresses, were overcome with disgust, staring at the two who were still oblivious to the shifting tide.
The mistress tried to steal the wife's dress, flaunted it in front of her husband, and the two flirted openly.
Worst of all, the husband only listened to the mistress, refused to believe a word his wife said, and even helped the mistress abuse her.
