Nolan could feel Jacqueline, leaning against him, start to tremble uncontrollably. He tightened his arm around her and glanced at Melody and Yates.
"I'm sorry, we have to excuse ourselves. I need to take Jacqueline upstairs to rest for a bit."
Melody could see that Jacqueline looked unwell, so she didn't press the matter and quickly told Nolan to take her to get some rest.
As they turned, Jacqueline's high heel caught on the hem of her dress. If Nolan hadn't been holding her steady, she would have fallen.
Nolan quickened his pace, eager to get Jacqueline to a quiet room.
He failed to notice that Jacqueline, clinging to him, was secretly peeking out of the corner of her eye at the figures they were leaving behind.
"Jacqueline doesn't look so good. Is she okay?" Melody asked, looking up at Yates.
She was about to suggest that Yates, as her cousin, should go check on her.
But then she reconsidered. Jacqueline had her boyfriend with her; it might be inappropriate for Yates to go as well.
"It's probably her vertigo acting up again. It's nothing serious. She'll be fine after a little rest."
Yates immediately pulled Melody closer, leaning in to whisper in her ear.
"Melody, I've made up my mind. When the holidays come, we'll meet each other's parents and set a date for the wedding. I can't wait to be with you."
Feeling the warm breath against her ear, Melody blushed and lowered her head, murmuring, "Whatever you say."
"Ahem, ahem." Janina's pointed cough cut through their intimate moment.
She was afraid that if she watched them any longer, she'd be tempted to walk over and slap Yates across the face.
How could this man be so sweet with a rich woman one day and so affectionate with his girlfriend the next?
The abrupt sound of coughing made the two of them pull apart slightly.
Yates reverted to his usual gentle demeanor.
Melody, the blush still lingering on her ears, let go of Yates's arm and quickly went to Janina.
"Nina, are you here by yourself? Where are Maggie and Wendy?"
Meanwhile, Maggie was following Yates up the stairs.
Wendy, from a distance, was keeping an eye on the woman from the café yesterday, Mrs. Wallace...
Mrs. Wallace glanced at the man heading upstairs, placed her wine glass on a nearby table, and followed him.
Wendy quickly sent a text to Maggie.
Maggie, seeing the message, ducked behind a pillar to avoid being seen by Mrs. Wallace and watched her every move.
Yates entered room 201. Less than two minutes later, Mrs. Wallace went into the same room.
Maggie and Wendy quickly crept to the door to eavesdrop, but the room was too well soundproofed; they couldn't hear a thing.
Maggie's eyes darted around, and an idea struck her. She called over a waiter and asked him to deliver some drinks to room 201.
While the waiter was distracted, she secretly placed a tiny surveillance device she had bought yesterday onto the fruit platter on his cart.
