Many in the audience were no longer interested in the gossip; they were simply furious, and some were already on their feet.
Drugging, gambling—these were tactics that could ruin a person's life, yet Lynn spoke of them as if they were mundane.
Meanwhile, the conversation between Nolan and Lynn continued.
"Why me? You have money. You could go to a club and pay for it. I'm just a regular working guy. If you drug me, aren't you afraid I'll call the police and have you arrested?"
"Hah, because I want to control you. I heard you're still a virgin. I don't have many vices, but I do have a weakness for handsome men. I have everything else—my life is perfect, except for a lack of beautiful men. You should be grateful I've chosen you. You won't have to struggle your whole life like everyone else."
Lynn's gaze was feverish, fixed on Nolan as she spoke and unbuttoned her dress.
"With just one night, you can have the kind of wealth and glory most people never achieve. Your family is poor. No woman has ever stuck with you because they all think you have no money."
"But I don't mind. As long as you please me, I can give you the life you want."
After her long speech, Lynn expected Nolan to be tempted. After all, what man could resist the lure of money?
She was still puzzled. How was his self-control so strong?
The drug seemed to have no effect on him.
Every other man she'd used it on had been all over her by now. But Nolan showed no signs of desire; instead, she saw only deep disgust and contempt in his eyes.
It didn't make sense. Even a bedridden old man couldn't resist this drug, let alone a healthy, virile young man like him.
Yates couldn't have deceived her. They were long-time partners. Nolan must have drunk it.
So what went wrong?
A sharp glint appeared in Nolan's eyes. He knew there were cameras in the room.
Everything he and Lynn said would be recorded.
He just didn't know it was being broadcast live to the entire gala.
