Abigail hesitated when she saw the transfer amount.
If it had been a few hundred, or even a thousand, she would have accepted it without a thought. But thirty thousand dollars was a lot. After a moment, she decided not to accept it.
"If he gave it to you, you should save it. You have a lot of expenses yourself. Keep it."
Seeing her mother's mood improve, Marjorie linked her arm through hers. "I have enough. He gives me money every month. Don't worry, he covers all my expenses."
Hearing this, the anger Abigail had felt toward Grace and Jarvis melted away.
She immediately accepted the transfer, a smug look on her face.
"That's my girl. You're the smart one, finding a catch like him. Unlike your father, who's been mediocre his whole life. I've had nothing but hardship with him."
Just as Abigail was about to launch into another complaint, Marjorie cut her off. "Mom, let's go out for dinner tonight."
"Alright, whatever you say, dear. Let's eat out. There's a great seafood restaurant I know. Let's go there."
Meanwhile, when Janina got home, Ethan and Grace first congratulated her on winning the award. They didn't want to spoil the happy mood, but they couldn't stop worrying about what Abigail had said.
So, Grace told them about her conversation with Abigail earlier that day.
Janina didn't hide anything. She hadn't planned on telling her parents, mainly because Natalie had said it was a minor issue and didn't want to worry them.
But since they were asking, there was no reason to keep it a secret.
Janina explained the whole story from start to finish.
Ethan listened and nodded in satisfaction. "Good. They deserved it, and you probably went too easy on them. People who spread rumors without knowing the facts need to be taught a lesson. The next time something like this happens, don't hold back. The more you let people walk all over you, the more they'll think they can get away with it."
