Janina was at the hospital for a prenatal check-up today.
Holding her lower back, she sat up from the examination table in the ultrasound room. The two little ones had been cooperative, and the scan was over quickly.
She had also received some oxygen at the hospital.
"How did it go?" Maggie immediately stood up from her chair in the waiting area and rushed over to Janina, taking her arm for support.
"The two little ones are doing fine. Let's go talk to the doctor," Janina said. Her belly was growing heavier by the day, making her movements slow and deliberate.
The doctor reviewed the report and confirmed that all of her levels were good, but she was slightly low on oxygen and recommended she spend half an hour in the oxygen room.
Maggie helped Janina over to the oxygen room.
Carrying twins was a much heavier burden than she had ever imagined.
Every breath felt like it was being filtered through a thick blanket, and her chest constantly felt tight.
The doctor also reminded her that if she ever felt unwell, she should come to the hospital immediately, as the risk of premature birth with twins was high.
"I don't want them to come early," Janina said, unconsciously stroking her belly. "Premature babies have to stay in incubators for weeks. It's too hard on them."
Maggie squeezed her shoulder reassuringly. "Don't think about that. You're doing great. Just another month and a half, and you'll be free."
She looked Janina up and down. "To be honest, at first, I was really worried your small frame wouldn't be able to handle it. Do you remember what you looked like right after your divorce? You were as skinny as a monkey. Thank goodness you're so strong mentally. Your parents have taken wonderful care of you, and the babies are growing well."
At that time, Janina was in the middle of her divorce from Julius and was emotionally and physically drained. The severe morning sickness of her early pregnancy had made it impossible to eat, and she had lost a significant amount of weight in a short time.
Janina rolled her eyes. "Let's not talk about that dark period of my life."
