The restaurant wasn't crowded, so they chose a table by the window.
Maggie handed them the menus. "Hurry up and order. I'm so hungry I could eat a horse!"
Janina and Melody huddled together, their heads close.
They scanned the menu and quickly placed their order. They were genuinely starving.
It was almost two in the afternoon, well past the lunch rush, so the place was relatively quiet.
While they waited for their food, Melody chattered nonstop, sharing amusing stories from her film set.
Janina and Maggie listened intently, occasionally letting out gasps of surprise or bursts of laughter.
The sunlight streamed through the window, casting long shadows of the three friends on the floor.
Janina looked at Melody, her face animated as she spoke, and then at Maggie, who was listening with rapt attention and chiming in from time to time.
A smile spread across Janina's face, and a soft warmth filled her heart.
Being with friends meant you could talk about anything and laugh without reservation.
Wendy was absent today because of work, but the four of them had been together since their school days. They had walked through the journey of youth together and had become an indispensable part of each other's lives.
Over the years, they had all made new friends and met countless new people.
But the bond between the four of them had remained unchanged, a fact that felt incredibly lucky and beautiful.
Janina raised her teacup. "Here's a toast. May everything you act in be a huge success. My words are blessed, you know."
Melody beamed and clinked her cup against Janina's. "I think you should go pray to a higher power first, and then come back and tell me that. If your words are truly blessed, I'm sure to land the lead role in my next long-form drama."
Maggie also raised her cup. "We should get Wendy and go pray together sometime. We have to do it for our friend's happiness."
After speaking, Maggie's gaze suddenly shifted to Janina, as if she had just had an idea.
"Hey, why don't we go right now? Your due date is in just over a month. We can ask God to bless you with a smooth delivery."
Janina was taken aback and joked, "What, is God going to perform my C-section?"
