Janina quickly pulled her foot back.
The people in the other stall must not have known anyone else was in the restroom, or they wouldn't be so bold.
This was the women's restroom!
If they were that desperate, there was a hotel right across the street. Anything would be better than a public toilet!
Janina's skin crawled. She had no desire to eavesdrop.
Encountering something like this, she wasn't so much embarrassed as she was angry. It was a complete disregard for a public space.
But she couldn't just hide in the stall forever.
Maybe, she thought, she should make some noise and embarrass the two of them.
Just then, a delicate, feminine voice drifted over from the next stall. "Clark, don't you miss me? I’ve missed you so much."
Janina froze, her foot hovering in the air again. Now she was the one who was embarrassed. She never thought she'd find herself eavesdropping like this.
If she pushed the door open now, it would definitely make a sound.
"Damn, you’re such a bitch. Don't tempt me. My girlfriend would get jealous," the man's voice replied, back to its normal tone.
Janina paused. The voice was familiar, and she was instantly on alert.
Clark?
What a coincidence.
Janina immediately thought of Marjorie's boyfriend, Clark.
She had only met him once, but that was definitely his voice!
Clark had won Marjorie over from West. You'd think he would cherish her, but here he was, cheating.
It wasn't surprising, she supposed. Clark was wealthy, so he must have plenty of women flocking to him. Janina wondered if Marjorie would regret her choice if she ever found out.
Janina couldn't listen anymore. It was making her flush. She didn't care if they were embarrassed; right now, she was the one feeling awkward.
Just as she was about to leave, she heard Clark say one more thing. "Her? She's as stiff as a board in bed. Nothing like you, Jenny."
So all men really were the same.
Though she didn't care for Marjorie, she despised men who cheated.
The sounds from the stall continued, and Janina couldn't take it anymore. She quietly opened the door, slipped out of her stall, and left the restroom.
Back in the private dining room, Janina shared the juicy gossip with Maggie and Melody.
Unexpectedly, just as Janina discovered Clark's infidelity, trouble was brewing for Marjorie.
For the past two weeks, Marjorie had been inexplicably shunned and isolated by her colleagues at work.
After graduating from college, she had worked as a receptionist for a year before Clark used his connections to get her a position at his family's company.
