The moment Yvonne cried out in pain, Janina straightened up, withdrew her foot, and smirked. "Mr. Aurelius, do you believe me now?"
Yvonne shot up from Julius's arms, clutching her throbbing foot. The pain was too intense; she couldn't keep up the act any longer.
"Janina, you…" She caught sight of Julius's mortified expression and swallowed the curse that was on the tip of her tongue. Instead, she burst into tears, her voice soft and her eyes misty as she looked at him. "Julius, it hurts…"
Julius stood frozen, his hands still in the position of holding Yvonne. His face flushed, then paled, caught between rage and shame. Even a fool could see that Yvonne had been faking. Why had she lied to him?
Seeing that Julius didn't immediately comfort her, Yvonne's heart sank. She continued her performance. "Julius, you have to believe me. You know what kind of person I am. It was because the pain was so intense that I…"
Julius's mind wavered. It was true that Janina had stomped on her with considerable force, which might have been what woke her up. But was that really it?
Yvonne's tearful excuses washed over him, but they didn't move him anymore.
Janina watched the two of them, taking in every flicker of their expressions. She crossed her arms and scoffed, "Overact, and of course you blow your own cover."
She glanced at Yvonne, who was still playing the innocent victim, then at Julius's thunderous face. "Not everyone loves a soap opera as much as Miss Moore does."
Yvonne flinched, her heart filled with venomous hatred. On the surface, however, she feigned fear, shrinking back and trying to press herself against Julius. But this time, Julius didn't offer her comfort or pity. Instead, he looked at her with a new, scrutinizing gaze.
Just as Julius was about to ask about the babies, Janina, somehow already holding a can of cola, tipped it straight over Yvonne's head.
"Aaaah!" A shriek pierced the air. Drenched and sticky, Yvonne went berserk, abandoning all pretense of decorum. She spread her hands like claws and lunged at Janina.
But she was kicked to the ground before she could reach her.
"Get lost! Don't you dare mess with my sister again!" Before Janina could react, Natalie, standing beside her, had already lashed out with her foot.
Natalie had seen Janina confronting a man and a woman from a distance as she arrived with the food container. When she got closer and recognized their faces, rage boiled up inside her.
