Julius's car pulled over on a road lined with tall sycamore trees.
Janina's heart pounded in her chest. She held her breath, watching as Julius got out and walked toward a figure on the sidewalk.-
It was a slender woman in a white dress, her long hair draped over her shoulders.
She stood by the road, seemingly waiting for someone.
As Julius approached, he gently tapped her on the shoulder.
The woman turned and naturally linked her arm through his.
Julius didn't pull away. Instead, he reached out and affectionately ruffled her hair.
His body blocked Janina's view, so she couldn't see the woman's face.
Janina's heart sank. Her fingers gripped the edge of the seat.
She mentally scanned through all of Julius's friends and relatives but couldn't place this woman.
Then she saw Julius hold the car door open for her. The woman ducked her head slightly and slid into the passenger seat.
After she was in, Julius closed the door, walked around the front of the car, and got back into the driver's seat.
It was the first time she had ever seen Julius look so gentle and attentive. His usual cool demeanor had completely melted away, replaced by a warm smile just for that woman.
So it wasn't that he couldn't smile. He just never smiled for her.
The car started, and Julius drove away with the woman, disappearing from sight.
"Miss, should we keep following?" the driver asked, turning to Janina as Julius's car pulled away.
Just then, a sharp pain shot through Janina's lower abdomen. A cold sweat broke out on her forehead. Clutching her stomach, she squeezed out two words through her teeth: "The hospital."
-
Worried about the baby, Janina rushed to the hospital, momentarily forgetting about Julius and the other woman.
"Yvonne, you're pregnant. The doctor said you need to rest. From now on, just have the housekeeper make whatever you want to eat."
"Julius, thank you." Yvonne smiled gently, her hand on her stomach. "Baby, you have to be good now, okay?"
With that, Yvonne tilted her head up, her gaze soft as she looked at Julius.
Their eyes locked in a moment of shared intimacy, and they smiled at each other, their bodies drawing even closer.
Watching them act so lovey-dovey felt like a series of slaps across Janina's face.
As the pair approached, Janina quickly hid herself around a corner.
She didn't know why she was afraid. Julius was the one cheating, yet she felt as if she was the one who had done something wrong.
Or maybe she was just terrified that if Julius saw her, her entire ten-year love story would become a complete joke.
The two figures walked past her from behind.
