Even in flats, she looked to be about the same height as Clark.
The longer she stared, the more her heart sank.
Marjorie didn't even snap out of her trance until West had walked past her and disappeared into the distance.
Two people who were once in love were now like strangers passing on the street.
Her heart was bleeding.
"Marjorie, why… why aren't you answering your phone?" Clark grabbed her arm, a wave of irritation washing over him as he saw her gaze still following West.
But the thought of that damning video forced him to swallow his anger.
The feeling of his hand on her arm finally pulled Marjorie back to reality.
She yanked her arm away, her expression frigid and her voice devoid of any warmth. "What are you doing here? I don't want to see you right now. Leave."
Her words confirmed his fears. She knew about the video.
His face fell. Knowing he was in the wrong, he immediately softened his tone.
"Marjorie, I'm a bastard. I'm so sorry. You can punish me however you want, just don't ignore me. I love you more than anyone, I swear it."
"Hah. Swear? Is your word worth anything anymore? How long have you been with her? When did you meet?"
Seeing that Marjorie was willing to talk about it, Clark thought he might still have a chance. The lies came easily.
"She's my ex-girlfriend. Her new boyfriend wasn't treating her well, so she reached out to me, but…"
Clark’s eyes flickered before he continued.
"Let me explain. I was drunk. I completely lost control. For all I know, she might have drugged me. I would never do anything to hurt you. You have to believe me, Marjorie."
She had been deceived for so many years.
Back then, she had thrown caution to the wind to be with him, even risking the Holt family's scorn. She had ignored the warnings, filled with a fiery passion, and thrown herself at him like a moth to a flame.
In the end, like a moth, she was consumed by the flame, leaving nothing but smoke.
"Clark, which one of these faces is the real you? Do you dare swear to God that Jenny is the only other woman? If you're lying, I hope you rot in hell, I hope you're the last of your pathetic bloodline, and I hope you die alone and forgotten!"
Marjorie's every word was sharp and forceful, demanding he take the oath.
Faced with this unfamiliar, terrifying version of Marjorie, Clark felt a flicker of fear. How could he possibly make that vow? He’d slept with more women than he could count on one hand.
He glanced in the direction West had gone, his eyes narrowing as he found his excuse.
"Marjorie, did you ever even like me? You only love my family's money. You're still not over West, are you? You were completely lost in thought watching him just now. You were just looking for a reason to pick a fight with me today, weren't you?"
