Janina was aghast. "He doesn't want you to cut us off too, does he?"
Wendy's hand froze. She didn't say anything, but her expression and silence said it all.
Melody let out a string of curses.
"Fuck, fuck, fuck! That's a classic control freak. He's even met us! What does he think we're going to do, steal you away from him?"
The three friends had a completely new and disturbing view of Finch. It was unbelievable.
Finch wanted Wendy to sever all her social ties so he could have complete control over her life, satisfying his own pathological need for dominance.
He wanted her world to revolve solely around him.
"Yesterday, a new colleague at my company asked me for directions, and I said a few words to him. Finch saw it."
"He got mad right away. The thing is, I don't even know the guy. He was just asking where the administration office was. We've been giving each other the silent treatment for a day because of it."
Wendy was completely exasperated just thinking about it. All she did was point the new colleague in the right direction.
Finch accused her of being all sweet and gentle with other men, with a beautiful smile.
He also said that those men only approached her with ulterior motives.
Finch was completely manipulating her.
Maggie shook her head and offered her opinion.
"You need to re-evaluate your relationship. You're with him with marriage in mind, and you can't avoid interacting with men at work unless you join a convent."
"And even if you take work out of the equation, what about when you have kids? They'll have to go to school, and you can't guarantee all their teachers will be women. What if a male teacher needs to talk to you about your child? Is he going to have a fit then?"
Melody's tone was thick with sarcasm. She took a sip of her lemonade and shook her head.
It just so happened that she was currently filming a short drama where the male lead was an extreme control freak.
When she first read the script, she had to bite back a string of curses.
The life of a humble wage-earner.
Janina also felt that Wendy should seriously reconsider the relationship.
"Finch is emotionally abusive. That kind of person is terrifying."
Wendy's family background had already brought her a lot of unhappiness. Her partner needed to not only love her but also respect her.
Finch only met the first requirement. After a moment's thought, Janina decided to say it out loud.
"Wendy, think about this carefully. You're not living together yet, so don't move in with him. Just wait and see for a while."
If he was this controlling before they even lived together, what would happen after they moved in? She'd have no freedom at all.
Moreover, Janina believed that a relationship should be about mutual understanding and respect, not about controlling each other.
"Yeah, I know. I'll find a time to have a serious talk with him."
