The next day, the day before New Year's, the entire Holt family prepared to head to the countryside for the holidays.
Janina had already packed clothes, formula, diapers, and other necessities for Liam and Joy the day before. The boys' things alone filled the entire trunk.
Janina was struck by how exhausting it was to travel with babies. At seven months old, Liam and Joy were at the age where they were constantly crawling and trying to stand, which meant they needed a lot of gear. Strollers were a must, as were high chairs for meals. In total, they had four different wheeled contraptions.
Luckily, West had a car, so they took two vehicles for the trip. His trunk was filled with holiday supplies, though they didn't need to buy much, as most things were already taken care of.
It was afternoon by the time they reached the countryside.
From a distance, they could see Easton, Fairchild, Seven, and Summer Quinn standing at the gate, looking out for them. When Fairchild spotted their cars, he waved excitedly.
The cars pulled directly into the courtyard.
"Hey, long time no see, Nina! Your face is getting fuller. You look great." As soon as the car door opened, Fairchild walked over to Janina with a wide grin.
Janina was speechless. Fuller? I've already lost the weight! she thought. But she didn't get angry at his comment. Instead, she pulled a gift box from the car. "Happy New Year. This is for you."
Hearing there was a gift, Fairchild lit up like a child. He took it and immediately handed it to Easton. "Hold this for me." Then he bypassed Janina and peered at the two adorable babies, his grin widening.
"Liam, Joy, hello! I am your… Grandpa."
The others were dumbfounded. He really knew how to give himself a title.
Liam and Joy had seen Fairchild often on video calls, so they weren't shy with a familiar face. The two little ones stretched out their hands, asking to be held.
Fairchild took Liam from Ethan's arms.
"I'm so touched! You were thinking of me even in Southvale!" Summer accepted the box and gave Janina a hug.
"Everyone gets one. I just held onto yours since you were out here. By the way, how's your writing going?" The two chatted as they walked into the house.
"It's going well. The income is stable. Enough to support my whole family."
The winter sun shone on her face, illuminating a bright smile that was so confident and beautiful. The free-spirited, self-assured queen was back.
This is wonderful, Janina thought.
That evening, everyone got busy preparing the holiday food. Janina and Natalie were on baby duty while all the Holt men tied on aprons and bustled around the kitchen.
