"20?" Maybelline asked as she wondered if that was good. Aren’t results always summed up to 100? Why did Ari score 20?
"This cannot be true mother, I cannot score 20." Ariana shook her head in disbelief. She couldn’t fail now, she has spent years in schools bragging and having big mouth on Penny. It is only now Ariana realized, Penny had been her brain.
Penny had been the one passing all these years even though she wasn’t literate. How did an illiterate pass all these years and she a literate failed?
"So you failed?"
"Are you talking about the recent medical exams? My niece, she just passed. She scored 260." I’m super excited." And elderly woman said with wide smile.
"No one asked!" Ariana yelled at her and the woman walked away with a smile.
"20?" Maybelline turned to her daughter. And here she thought the highest mark was 100. She felt like a big fool. Ariana used to be so smart, so how the hell did she not pass?
"You failed?!" May asked.
"So you’re not a doctor." Ari shook her head. She couldn’t believe it herself. She was her parents last saviour, she was their only hope to recovering their company which her uncle had stolen. How would they trust her into taking that if she couldn’t pass her exams?
Ari felt like a failure. She felt so useless.
It’s enough she’s fat, now she was unintelligent. She was nothing in the society. Penny was really her saviour.
"In sorry mother." Ariana cried.
"Sorry?"
"You failed your final exams and all you can do is sorry?" May yelled. They had placed their last bet on her. They had put their last hope on her.
How is she supposed to brag to her friends now? Her enemies will definitely mock and laugh at her.
"I... It’s not true. I think they have my result to someone el..."
"THWAKK!!"
"TELL HIM!" May yelled when she said nothing. Her Ariana was useless to her right now. She was a school failure, she had married wrong and didn’t look one bit attractive to even find another his and from a reputable family.
What the hell was really going on with her family? When did things go wrong?
They had everything before. They had the money, they had a daughter. A doctor in the making. So how did things go south?
"I... I failed my final exams father." Ari said calmly.
"What?" May quickly walked away to recieve a call that came in.
"That it was rigged. There’s no way I could have failed I’m telling you. A girl we saw here said she scored 260, how can she score that high above me?" David shook his head calmly.
No one rigs a medical final exam. It just isn’t possible. They cannot jeopardize loves for nothing.
"YOU LIAR!" May screamed from the door pointing at Ariana.
"She tried to sort her way out. A message from school is that Ariana has been bribing her way through out her five years in the university." Maybelline said.
"Ariana Isn’t smart at all. There’s no one coming to save us David. We can as well start preparing for an elderly home before we die of heart attack." May said calmly.
"I’m sorry mother." Ari broke down. Her mother was right. She had studied medicime to shame Penelope even though that wasn’t her thing.
Ever since she was a little girl, all she’s dreamt of is surpassing Penelope. Her decietful nature has landed her in a bigger trouble.
"I should never have done medicine out of spite. Penny had been the one doing all of my projects and assignment, that’s why I always passed. This time, she refused to do it." Ariana cried out.
"Penny?" May asked.
