GABRIELLE’S POV

I slept through the whole flight to Italy.

When I woke up, we had already landed for almost thirty minutes and Damon was sitting across the bed, watching me.

You’re finally awake, sleepy head,he said, his voice low.

I stretched my arms above my head, the muscles pulling pleasantly. I was tired. Whose fault is that?

His gaze dipped briefly before returning to my face. Mine,he said. I’ll take responsibility for that.

Fiorella had already gone ahead to the resort where we’d be staying. She texted me something about infinity pools and ocean

views and how I’d owe her wine for life.

The drive to the resort was short.

Damon told me how his parents were both from Italy but moved to America due to his father’s businesses.

I looked forward to knowing more about him and where he came from.

The place was huge, secluded, and private. The luxury felt unreal as the huge gate slid open.

The car stopped in front of the first building, and when I alighted, I noticed that the place was empty, save for the staff who

walked around.

As if reading my mind, Damon spoke up.

It’s a private resort,he said, his hand on the small of my back as he led me inside. It’s just us.

The words settled into me slowly.

Just us.

My fingers curled into the sleeve of his shirt without me realizing it. You planned all this?

Yes.

That’sexcessive,I said, even though my heart was pounding in a way that said the opposite.

He stopped walking and turned to face me. You don’t like it?

I didn’t say that,I replied quickly. I justthis feels intentional. It’s verynice.

His thumb brushed absently against my waist. I’m glad you like it.

We got to the reception and were led by one of the staff to our suite. It was the biggest and most expensive suite but it almost didn’t matter.

I didn’t have to unpack my bags and settle in as there were already clothes my size in the closet. Most of them were from brands I’d shopped from before with Damon’s card.

He didn’t have to ask me what I wanted, he just checked what I liked and had them well arranged for me.

When I stepped out of the closet in a simple teal dress, I froze.

Damon had his back to me as he put his shirt on, his muscles flexing with every movement but it wasn’t what caught my

attention.

His back scars were all gone.

Which meant he hadn’t done that thing to himself in weeks.

He turned and caught me staring at him. I could feel your eyes putting holes in my back.

I blinked, catching myself. I’m just

No, maybe I shouldn’t bring it up.

Yes, I was,I said, walking into the room with my chin up. What are you going to do about it?

His eyes ran down my body, his expression darkening as he licked his lips.

I felt heat rush to my core.

One of his hands wrapped around my waist to squeeze my ass. Many things, wife. And as much as I’d love to do them right now, I have to go to my meetings.

I groaned in protest. Oh, come on. Can’t you catch a break?

I could as the CEO,he said. But what kind of businessman would that make me?

With a defeated sigh, I pulled away from him and watched as he put on his jacket, his eyes on mine.

Fuck, how could someone be so effortlessly sexy?

Maybe it was best we had some time apart until I was on birth control. I had already searched for the best hospitals around the

area I could visit for consultation.

After he left, I walked to the other wing of the resort where Fiorella’s room was. She meant it when she said she’d stay out of our

way.

Her room door was slightly open and I heard her voice before I stepped in. She was on a call and pinching the bridge of her nose.

Immediately our eyes met, she ended the call. Oh, Gabby. What are you doing here?

I raised a brow. Trying to talk to a friend? Who were you on the phone with?

Nobody important, she responded, as she walked to the table and poured me a glass of wine. Shouldn’t you be with Damon?

He left for his meetings,I answered, taking the glass from her. I was thinking you’d like to go to the hospital with me.

Concern flashed in her eyes. Why? Are you sick?

I almost rolled my eyes at her. No. For the consultation.

Oh, yeah, she said. I’m sorry, I forgot about that. I’ll change my clothes and we can go.

There was something off about her.

She seemed to be hiding something and I felt like she didn’t want me to know who she was on the phone with.

Not that it was any of my business.

She was dressed in minutes and soon, we were on our way to the hospital.

After visiting the hospital and a few hours of sightseeing, we got ice cream- shopping with Damon’s card.

The staff checking out our items made a fuss about our names not matching the name on the card.

CHAPTER 104

After one phone call to Damon, his doubts were cleared and he was profusely apologizing.

Aside from that, it was a very fun day for me.

“Wow, we should do this often,I said, laughing and clutching my stomach in the back of the limo. You’re fun to be around.

She hit my shoulder with hers. What did I tell you? Being in Italy without me is a waste. This is my domain.

I hadn’t been with a friend in so long and I had forgotten what that felt like. It reminded me of old times with Emily but I pushed the thoughts down.

After everything I’d been through, I thought this was finally my time to be happy and free.

I deserved it.

But I also felt immense guilt deep down at my sister being locked up.

When we get home,Fiorella’s voice pulled me out of my head, we should make cocktails and I’ll cook shrimp pasta for you.

My mouth watered. I can’t wait.

It wasn’t long before we were in the kitchen, singing horribly and drinking concoctions we called cocktails.

Fiorella had the food on the stove, the heat cranked all the way up as she made a thirtyminute meal in half the time.

As someone who had a bad reputation in the kitchen, I couldn’t judge.

After countless glasses of cocktails and red wine, we were slouched over our food on the kitchen counter, too drunk and sleepy

to eat.

Our eyes met and we burst into a fit of laughter.

No, because what the fuck were we thinking?I asked, laughing so hard my eyes watered.

Fiorella almost fell over her chair. Maybe we should take a nap first.

A nap at 9:30pm?

She raised her eyes to the clock. Oh, shit. Let’s just go to bed. We’ll deal with this in the morning.

I couldn’t agree more,I responded, my words slurring as I got off the chair.

I took the wine bottle with me so I didn’t have to come down for a drink if I wanted some. I could already hear Damon’s voice in my head calling me a drunk.

I had no idea how I found the strength to walk myself up the stairs. I was halfway through the wing when I realized my phone was in Fiorella’s purse.

I groaned in frustration and turned around, walking back to her room when a tall dark figure outside her window caught my

attention.

I almost sobered up immediately, my heart thudding wildly.
