CHAPTER 115
GABRIELLE’S POV
[Readers discretion advised: This chapter explores erotic and consensual BDSM–style themes.]
The next day came quicker than expected.
I sat there in silence, staring at my reflection in the mirror as the hairstylist and makeup artist worked on me.
As I’d never been to a masquerade before, Damon got me professional assistance.
The door pushed open and Susan walked in with a tray, the contents covered with a clean sheet.
She dropped it on the stool beside me. “Good evening, Miss Gabby. You haven’t eaten all day.”
I had no one else to blame for that but Damon. If he hadn’t forgotten about the party until a day before, I’d have had more time
to prepare.
I gave Susan a warm smile. “Thank you so much.”
She smiled, but hesitated, as if she wanted to say something but didn’t know how.
I raised a brow. “You want to say something?”
Her eyes moved to the people in the room before settling on mine. “Yes, Miss Gabby. But in private.”
I dismissed everyone, even my stylist and her team who were prepping my dress on the other side of the room.
I waited until we were alone before speaking. “What did you want to tell me?”
Susan moved closer and sat on the chair across from me. “I just found out that Lila’s mother has moved in,” she said quietly. “ And I was wondering if you were aware.”
What the fuck?
How could she move into someone’s home without even telling them? Or was Damon aware? It didn’t matter if he was because Anya was beginning to get my nerves.
Susan’s voice pulled me out of my head. “I know both of you have some issues involving Lila. But to be honest with you, we don’t like Lila’s mother.”
I raised a brow. “We? Who’s we?”
“All the staff in the villa, Miss Gabby,” she replied. “She’s mean and disrespectful. She almost had me fired twice, and the way she treats George…” She shook her head. “The others may not say anything, but I’ve noticed.”
My eyes widened.
“That’s… a strong thing to say,” I murmured carefully. “Damon has never spoken of her that way.”
Susan’s lips pressed together, like she’d already expected that answer. “Yes, Miss Gabby. To him, she’s different.”
That didn’t help the tight knot forming in my chest.
“She’s polite when he’s around,” Susan continued. “She acts soft and kind.” Then she shook her head slightly. “But when he isn’t, it’s like dealing with another person entirely.”
I leaned back in my chair, my fingers curling into the armrest. “And you’re worried about going through that again?“.
She nodded. “Exactly, Miss Gabby. She has already started ordering everyone around like she’s the boss. She’s not, at least not anymore. You are.”

Her words somewhat warmed me but I was already too irritated.
I didn’t like that Damon hadn’t mentioned it–if he was aware without telling me.
-and I didn’t like that Anya felt comfortable enough to move in
I didn’t like how neatly it fit into the unease I’d been trying to ignore since yesterday.
Susan studied my face, her voice lowering. “I’m sorry if this causes trouble. I just didn’t want you to be blindsided.”
I exhaled slowly. “It’s okay, Susan. You did the right thing. Thank you.”
She nodded, relief flashing briefly across her face. “I should go. They’ll be waiting to finish your makeup.”
Susan walked away and hesitated again, her hand on the door. “Miss Gabby?”
“Yes?”
“Lila’s mother wanted pancakes for breakfast tomorrow,” she said. “But as the lady of the house, only your choice matters.”
It was evident that Susan didn’t like Anya.
She was a gentle woman who had treated me with warmth from the moment Damon brought me here, so I doubted this was baseless resentment.
I stifled back a laugh. “Hmm. I think I’ll go with waffles.”
She smiled and nodded once before stepping out. The door closed behind her, leaving the room suddenly too quiet.
I exhaled and called the stylists back in, pushing down what Susan had said to me.
I’d deal with Anya tomorrow, because tonight, I had to be watching the masks very closely.
After hours of fittings and adjustments, I settled on a fitted red dress with slits rising high on both sides–up to my waist. The fabric clung to my body in a way that it wouldn’t shift, hugging my curves and accentuating my cleavage just the way I liked.
Damon picked the design himself after I showed him a few options.
I paired it with black strap heels, soft blown–out curls, and of course, red lips to match.
I didn’t drive with Damon to the event as he left way earlier than I did to prepare and welcome the guests. I hadn’t even seen my husband all day and I missed him terribly.
Soft music drifted out of the hall, growing louder as the car slowed to a stop in front of the hall.
I put on my red half mask and stepped out, the cool night air brushing against my bare shoulders, and I immediately understood. why Damon had called the event mandatory.
Cars were lined up in the driveway in perfect order, their occupants already filtering inside in elaborate masks and tailored attire.
Inside, the space was alive.
I didn’t recognize anyone as they all had their faces covered with different mask designs, and I was grateful as that meant I could avoid small talks.
“Finally,” I heard an awfully familiar voice. “I’ve been waiting for you all night.”
I turned to see a lady wearing a blue half mask to match her blue dress. “Selene?”
She smiled and stepped closer. “You aren’t safe here, Gabrielle.”

I blinked at her. “What?”
“You should leave. You aren’t safe here,” she said again, her smile slipping. “I overheard someone planning to-”
“Here we go again,” I cut in flatly. “Stay away from me tonight. Please.”
I walked away before she could say another word. I wasn’t in the mood for her games or rumors tonight, especially after she lied to me the last time we spoke.
I took a flute from one of the servers nearby and sipped, my eyes scanning the room for Damon’s silver mask.
I felt him before I saw him.
“Hello, wife,” his low voice came from behind me.
I turned around to face him, relief curling in my chest and followed quickly by nerves. Even with his face partially hidden, I could recognize those eyes anywhere.
“Hey, handsome,” I smiled at him,
He tilted his head slightly, studying me in a way that made my pulse stumble. The silver mask hid most of his face, but it did nothing to dull the intensity of his gaze.
If anything, it sharpened it.
“You look…” He paused, like he was choosing his words carefully. “Distracting.”
Heat crept up my neck. “Is that a complaint or a compliment?”
He was too busy ogling my body to answer my question immediately. “If we were alone I’d have thrown you over that table and fucked you until you couldn’t walk straight.”
I swallowed, my breath stuttering. “Oh, I see it was a compliment.”
His gaze dropped from my eyes to my lips, unobstructed by my mask and his hand reached out to touch my it lightly.
“The highest kind, my gorgeous wife. There’s something I want to show you,” he said in a low voice that had me pressing my thighs together.
With a flushed face, I dropped my drink and let him take my hand in his, feeling sparks fly through my body as he led me through a quieter hall.
“Is it a surprise?” I asked.
His hand tightened slightly around mine. “Not exactly.”
My skin prickled with nervousness and anticipation.
We got to the door on the right end and I could hear faint music from inside. We paused and I felt Damon lace our fingers together.
“Behind this door,” he said quietly, “is a space reserved for our most exclusive guests. During the masquerade, certain… rules loosen.”
I raised a brow. “What kind?”
“It’s a private sex club,” he said calmnly. “People come here to indulge in things they don’t want the world to see. They’re legal but judge by society.”
I felt a thrill run down my spine at the words he said. I’d never been to a sex club in my entire life but the thought of doing so with Damon was so exciting.
