CHAPTER 123
GABRIELLE’S POV
I’d never been one to have a high libido.
Granted, I wasn’t having sex before now but I had touched myself and felt sexual arousal occasionally.
But with Damon, I was insatiable.
And I was even hungrier for him as I watched him beat my ex to a pulp with a baseball bat.
“Please, Gabby,” Jared was begging. “Make him stop.”
My mind went back to our time together.
Jared had been the textbook definition of a good man. He was respectful and kind not just to me but to everyone.
I truly believed that he had loved me at some point. That even though he was plotting against me, there was a second or two where he reconsidered hurting me.
But sending his friend after me told me otherwise.
Even after all the months that followed our breakup, he still had nothing but hate in his heart for me.
Damon took a step back from him. “Get up, Jared. My wife wants a show and it’s no fun if you don’t fight back.”
Jared screamed, holding his hands over his head as he cried on the floor.
It was funny because a few hours ago I was the one crying and begging to be saved. The table had turned so quickly and I was going to enjoy the fuck out of it.
I circled him once. “I’ve been begging him for months, holding him back from hurting you because I didn’t want my sister to be alone.”
Damon landed the bat on his back–a hit so hard and loud that I heard the sound of his breath cutting off.
“Fuck! God, please,” Jared shouted, crying pathetically.
“God can’t save you,” Damon murmured casually.
He took off his jacket and stepped close to me, putting it over my shoulders. “Sit down while I handle this, wife.”
I sat on the only chair available in the room, biting down my lip and forcing my hands to stay still even though they longed to
touch him.
He leaned down, held up my chin, and planted a soft kiss on my lips. “Let me know how hard you want me to hit him.”
Then he pulled away and undid his cuffs slowly, his eyes holding mine. The slow movements sent a low burn through my
stomach.
Jared whimpered on the floor, blood staining his shirt, but all I could see was Damon calmly rolling his sleeves up as if this were nothing more than unfinished business.
He flexed his fingers once, testing his grip on the bat.
“Tell me,” he said quietly, not looking at Jared. “How much does he deserve?”
The question wasn’t about punishment.
It was about me.

My pulse fluttered between my thighs.
I shifted in the chair, crossing one leg over the other in an attempt to calm myself, but it did nothing to cool the heat building
inside me.
“Enough that he remembers,” I replied, my voice softer than I intended. “But not enough to kill him. I don’t want him dead, yet.”
Damon’s gaze sharpened at the change in my tone. He stepped toward Jared and brought the bat down again.
The crack echoed through the room and a shiver rolled down my spine.
God.
I loved it–the power, the restraint, and the fact that he could destroy him completely and was choosing not to because I said so.
Jared cried out my name again but I didn’t answer.
Instead, I watched the way Damon’s shoulders moved, the way his jaw tightened, and the way he exhaled slowly after each strike, like he was working through something deeply satisfying.
Heat pooled low in my stomach.
I hated that it did.
I loved that it did.
Damon glanced over his shoulder at me, catching the way I was gripping the edge of the chair.
His mouth curved slightly. “Harder?” he asked.
My breath caught in my throat. “Yes.”
He didn’t hesitate to bring down the bat again, the next hit even more brutal.
Jared collapsed fully, sobbing into the floor. “Gabby, you evil bitch. I loved you.”
I almost laughed at that.
He loved me?
What the fuck did he take me for?
“You’ll never learn,” Damon said, raising him to his feet with his shirt. “Calling my wife a bitch in front of me? Do you have a death wish, boy?”
Jared was flung across the room, his back slamming against the floor. He was still screaming, still crying, with real fear shining in his eyes.
Damon approached him slowly “Stand up.”
Jared tried to push himself up, and failed miserably until my husband grabbed his shirt and hauled him to his teet.
Damon shoved the bat into his hands. “Take It. Fight me.”
I could see what Damon wanted.
He didn’t want a helpless victim, he wanted a fight. He wanted Jared swinging at him in front of me wanted me to see just how easily he could win.
Jared’s hands trembled around the bat. “I don’t want to fight you, man. I tried to stop him but I couldn’t reach him,

Damon tilted his head slightly. “I don’t care.”
He lunged.
Jared panicked and swung, but Damon caught the bat mid–air. In the same breath, he drove his fist into Jared’s ribcage.
A sickening crack split through the room.
Jared screamed and dropped to one knee, the bat slipping from his grip.
Damon didn’t let him fall.
He grabbed him by the collar and drove another punch into his side. “That’s for telling her she isn’t worthy of love.”
My pulse pounded in my ears and blood rushed to my core as I watched him.
Jared fell to the floor, clutching his side as he screamed in pain. “I’m… begging you.”
Damon ignored him and walked back to me unhurriedly, undoing the button of his shirt. Slowly, with his eyes on mine, he took
it off and handed it over to me.
A faint sheen of sweat clung to his skin, his veins visible along his forearms and his muscles flexing with every move.
Fuck, he was unbelievably sexy.
He stopped in front of me. “Keep looking at me like that and I might take you right here.”
I swallowed, my eyes raising to meet his gaze. “I can’t help but stare at you, husband.”
Something dark flickered behind his eyes.
He braced one hand on the arm of my chair and leaned in close enough that I could feel his breath against my lips.
“Careful, your beauty is already distracting me enough,” he said, his tone dripping with confidence. “Let’s give that loser a chance to recover.”
His confidence was even sexier when I knew he could back it up.
I moved to press my lips against his when I saw Jared raising the bat from the corner of my eyes.
“Damon!”
It was too late.
Jared hit him across the back, but Damon didn’t even move.
He leaned down and pressed a brief kiss to my lips before pulling away and turning to face my ex fully.
Jared swung wildly with his free hand and managed to graze Damon’s jaw, but it barely registered.
He rolled his jaw once, then looked back at Jared slowly. “You’re getting bold,” he said, his voice calm but edged. “Let me fix that.”
Jared tightened his grip on the bat and swung again, but Damon caught it mid–air and twisted his wrist hard enough to force a cry out of him.
The bat clattered to the floor between them.
Damon stepped in close and drove his fist into Jared’s stomach, then another into his ribs, and he finished with a hit to one of
his eyes.
Jared folded, coughing, but Damon grabbed the front of his shirt and kept him upright.
“Finally, you fight back,” he muttered. “It’s a good thing Gabrielle is not married to you. Is this how you would have protected

her?”
Jared tried to shove him away, desperate now, but Damon shoved him back harder and sent him crashing into the wall again.
Hell, I was wet and ready to go.
I shouldn’t have been reacting like this, I knew that but my body didn’t care.
I pressed my thighs together, biting down on my lip to hold back a moan but my shallowed breath already betrayed me.
For a man who couldn’t feel emotions, Damon had shown me more compassion than anyone else had, except Father.
He had broken bones for me without hesitation, and he was the only person who had ever asked me what I wanted.
He made me feel safe, protected, and cherished. He made me feel like I was deserving of everything he had done for me.
And he never asked for anything in return.
