ACCIDENTALLY MARRIED TO THE BILLIONAIRE SINGLE DAD (Gabrielle and Damon) novel Chapter 170

CHAPTER 170

GABRIELLE’S POV

The man led us to a room with huge double doors.

They were already open.

Two armed guards stood on either side, rifles slung across their chests. Neither of them even glanced at us a were shoved forward.

My eyes moved across the room slowly.

It was large and brightly lit, but the air was thick with the smell of expensive liquor and cigar smoke.

A man sat in the center of the room, sprawled comfortably on a thronelike seat like some bloated king.

His heavy body sank into the chair, one thick hand resting on his stomach while the other lazily swirled a glas whiskey.

His face broke into a smile the moment he saw me.

Ah,he said, his voice rich with amusement. Our guests have finally arrived.

My stomach twisted. Rocco?

The man behind me shoved me again. Put some respect on his name.

That’s enough,Rocco raised his voice. You will treat our guests with respect henceforth. And why are they ti up like that?

I exchanged surprised glances with Fiorella.

The man moved to cut the ropes around my wrists.

The rough fibers loosened suddenly, and the moment the rope fell away, blood rushed painfully back into my hands.

I flexed my fingers slowly, trying not to show how badly they stung.

Beside me, Fiorella’s ropes were cut as well.

Rocco watched the entire thing with mild interest, like a man observing a small inconvenience being corrected.

Better,he said, settling deeper into his seat.

My eyes moved around the room, already searching for exits.

You don’t have to be scared,Rocco’s voice pulled me back. If I wanted you dead, you wouldn’t be standing here.

My stomach turned with fear but I tried not to let it show.

He turned to Fiorella, “Ben fatto, ragazza.

Fiorella shook her head. Non mi hai dato altra scelta. Dov’è mio figlio?

I couldn’t understand what they were talking about.

Rocco laughed in amusement. Patience. He’s still alive if that will give you a sense of comfort.

I heard her exhale in relief.

Then he turned back to me. I apologize for the way my boys treated you. They are quite illmannered, but I li to believe I’m not.

Then why did you kidnap me?I asked.

Rocco’s eyes glittered, like a predator savoring its prey.

Kidnap,he repeated slowly, as if tasting the word. Such a strong word for amisunderstanding.

I narrowed my eyes. A misunderstanding that involved guns, murder, and dragging us across town?

He chuckled, a deep, throaty sound that made the hairs on my neck stand on end.

Ah, but everything is a matter of perspective, my dear. You are here because you are valuable to Gravari.

My throat tightened.

Every instinct screamed to run and to fight, but I knew I was trapped, surrounded by dangerous people who wou like nothing more than to kill me.

Rocco’s expression suddenly turned sad. Your husband murdered my only offspring. Predictably, I would come for his wife and unborn child.

Chills ran through my body as the hair along my arms stood up.

Damon didn’t do it,I said hurriedly. He just wants you to leave us alone. Harming an innocent child won’t bring yours back.

If he didn’t kill my son, then who did?he asked, the smile on his face hinting that he might already know the

answer.

My mouth clamped shut.

I didn’t know whether to tell the truth or not, but I knew it wouldn’t matter.

Rhys was Damon’s brother, and his actions were an act of revenge. In Rocco’s eyes, they were equally guilty.

I don’t know,I finally answered. “But I do know you’ve gotten the wrong people.

Rocco stared at me for a second, then frowned. I don’t like lies, Gabrielle. I think you know who did it.

My heart began thudding wildly in my chest.

But I didn’t respond.

“I did not become the Don of Dons by being a fool,Rocco continued. I already know exactly who killed my son.

My pulse jumped.

Rocco took another slow sip of his whiskey, watching me over the rim of the glass.

And yet,he continued, I still believe that your husband is responsible.

My jaw clenched. Damon didn’t-

Rocco lifted one finger.

I stopped speaking immediately, not because I wanted tobut because every guard in the room subtly shifted th moment his finger rose.

Fiorella just stood there quietly, staring at the ground like it could offer us help.

Rocco leaned forward slightly, his fingers resting on his knee now.

Family,he said slowly, is a complicated thing. If a man’s brother spills blood in his namethen the blood is on both their hands.

His gaze bored into mine.

And I know Damon’s brother is alive,he added. They were both spotted together in Russia yesterday, and in Mexico the day before. Along with that Carter boy. Why?

To blackmail the top Dons in your circle and get them on the side for when they kill you.

But I didn’t say

that.

Instead, I shook my head. I don’t know. He doesn’t discuss work with me.

Rocco nodded slowly.

When he spoke again, his voice was calm, but the weight behind the words pressed down on the room.

Are you sure about that?

My hands were trembling badly.

But I held my ground.

I don’t know anything about his work,I answered.

Rocco’s gaze drifted slowly to my stomach, then back to my face. A small fall is enough to get rid of your child, I suppose.

A sick feeling settled in my stomach.

The man behind me suddenly stepped closer.

I felt his presence before I turned. His hand hovered near my shoulder, waiting for an order.

No,Fiorella said sharply. You said you wouldn’t harm her.

Rocco waved dismissively at her. I can do whatever I want.

Her shoulders stiffened. Does that mean you’ll harm my son too? I want to see him.

You will,Rocco replied. But only when I decide.

She tried to speak again, but the man behind her pressed a gun against the back of her head.

My heart slammed against my ribs, the room suddenly feeling too small and tight.

You want me because I’m leverage,I said desperately with a shaky voice. But I’ll no longer be leverage if my baby dies. That’s the only reason Damon is keeping around.

That was a risky lie.

But I had nothing more to lose in that moment.

Rocco watched my reaction with quiet interest. He took another sip of his whiskey and rested the glass on the arm of his chair.

You’re right,he agreed, then nodded at the man behind me to step back. The Damon Gravari I know has no softness for women.

Relief surged through me immediately.

I let out a relieved sigh, gasping and trying to calm my breath.

I couldn’t be more thankful for my husband’s reputation.

Then, unexpectedly, Rocco smiled again. I want retribution. I want the Gravari boys dead for what they did to m son. Both of them.

He gestured at a guard to come closer.

My chest rose sharply.

Call Gravari,he said.
