CHAPTER 178
GABRIELLE’S POV
My chest hit the table as Damon pressed my waist down with one hand while the other tangled in my hair.
We were lost in pure ecstasy while gunshots rang out around us, but at some point, the noise faded, completely drowned out by my own pleasure.
Then he switched positions again, turning me over and placing my legs over his shoulders.
My eyes rolled to the back of my head.
I felt him lightly tap my cheek. “Hey, hey look at me. Unless you want me to stop.”
My eyes popped open immediately. “No… please.”
ove into me so hard it began to hurt in a way that felt so good.
I after, and put me in so many positions that I lost count of how many times we both came.
hally let each other go, I couldn’t help but fall into a short nap in his arms as we lay on the floor.
was still beside me when I woke up minutes later. He was wearing his jeans and I was back in my dress.
andwork, no doubt.
I lifted my head and found his eyes open as if he was deep in thought.
“Hey, sleepyhead,” he said, his voice a low rumble.
I could only manage a smile.
Fuck, he was so… ugh!
I just loved him so much.
His eyes softened. “Now that the drug has worn off, did I cross any boundaries?”
It took me a minute to respond.
“Not at all. In fact…” I said, moving to lie on his body. “I want us to do that again next time. Until we’re both exhausted.”
I felt his cock growing hard beneath me.
His hand moved to squeeze my ass. “How did I get this lucky?”
I rolled my eyes, but I couldn’t stop the small smile that tugged at my lips.
“Don’t start,” I muttered, though there was no real bite behind it.
His gaze was fixed on my face.
“I’m serious,” he said, his hand sliding to my stomach. “You’re… wonderful. And you’re stuck with me.‘

asked softly. “And where else would I be?”
st dangerous edge flickered back in his eyes but it wasn’t directed at me.

“Not here in Rocco’s villa,” he said. “I should have done better. I should have protected you.”
I shook my head. “You did protect me. And I’m safe now–with you.”
With his emotions starting to surface again, I knew he needed a way to handle them properly this time.
I didn’t like him beating himself up for things that weren’t in his control.
We both needed some sort of therapy.
He looked unsettled.
My hand moved to his cheek, gently forcing him to meet my eyes.
“I chose this,” I said. “I chose you.”
His gaze darkened slightly at that, but there was something more thoughtful beneath it.
“You shouldn’t have to choose this life,” he murmured.
I shook my head immediately.
“I didn’t choose the life,” I corrected him. “I chose you. Everything else comes with it.”
Damon didn’t respond, obviously thinking about something.
His hand moved to my ass and squeezed it again, like he needed the contact.
I took a slow breath. “If we’re ever going to have a future together, you need to remember that being with you is my choice.”
He held my gaze for a moment, something shifting in his eyes before he gave a small nod.
“I know, but you shouldn’t be dragged into my mess. If I had come in a minute later…” he exhaled like he couldn’t even say the word, “I just don’t like what it costs you.”
My fingers slid into his hair, slow but certain. “Then make it worth it.”
That seemed to settle something inside him.
His grip on me relaxed, but he didn’t let go. “I will.”
I lay my head back on his chest, and his hands moved to my back, caressing it gently.
“Rhys and the others have covered the building,” he said after a while. “We have to join them.”
I groaned in protest, not wanting to move from his arms.
But I suddenly remembered I hadn’t told him about Fiorella and Brandi.
Damon was already furious with himself for not being there when Rocco took me. There was no telling what he’d do to Fiorella.
Also, I didn’t know whether to tell him about her son.
She kept him a secret for eleven years for a reason. I decided to have a conversation with her first before telling him anything.
So I told him about Brandi instead.
“Fuck!” Damon snapped, his hand dragging through his hair as he stared at me. “You killed her?”
His voice was low, but I could hear the edge beneath it.
I stared at him, my heart sinking. “She was injecting me. I didn’t have time to think.”

His jaw clenched.
He scanned my face and body, like he was checking for injuries all over again.
“I’m not hurt,” I said softly. “I stopped her before she could do anything else.”
Damon didn’t seem convinced.
His hands kept roaming my body until they froze at the back of my head.
I winced in pain, suddenly remembering how Brandi had hit my head against the mirror.
His hand stilled immediately.
Damon’s eyes turned dark as he gently turned my head to the side, his fingers parting my hair to get a better look.
“Who did this?” he asked.
The calm in his voice was worse than his anger.
“Brandi,” I admitted. “Before I… handled her.”
His jaw tightened, his thumb brushing carefully over the sore spot as if he could heal it.
“She slammed your head against something,” he muttered, more to himself than to me.
I stayed still, letting him check me.
“I’m fine,” I said softly. “I’m sure it looks worse than it feels.”
He finally let me go, and I turned to look at him just in time to see something settle in his expression.
Pride.
“You defended yourself and there’s nothing wrong with that,” he muttered, almost to himself.
I held his gaze. “I did what I had to.”
It was a good thing I stopped her before she could inject the whole thing into me. Who knew what would have happened?
Damon’s thumb brushed against my jaw slowly, his eyes darkening.
“That’s my wife,” he said proudly. “We will talk about this again later. You might not feel it now, but taking a life–even in defense–will take a toll on you.”
My chest clenched.
He did have a point.
I’d been trying to focus on how evil Brandi was and how much she deserved it, just to stop myself from thinking about what I’d done.
Damon’s expression hardened again, colder this time.
“Next time,” he added, his voice dropping, “no one gets close enough to hurt you like that. Not on my

He kissed me and carried me in his arms as we walked out of the room, my legs wrapped around his waist.
