ACCIDENTALLY MARRIED TO THE BILLIONAIRE SINGLE DAD (Gabrielle and Damon) novel Chapter 27

CHAPTER TWENTYSEVEN

DAMON’S POV

I waited until the car turned the corner before walking away. Being around Gabrielle too much wasn’t good for either of us.

A car was parked a few blocks away.

I got into the front passenger seat. How long have you been waiting?

Fiorella smiled. Thirty minutes. What took you so long? The plane was ready an hour ago.

I had business to attend to,I said, adjusting my jacket. The same business I was attending to was right in my pocket.

Fiorella arched a brow, her eyes flicking to the tension in my shoulders. Business that leaves you looking like that?

I ignored her, reaching into my pocket. The fabric brushed against my fingers before I pulled it out her underwear, still faintly warm from earlier.

I stared at it for a moment before tucking it back in.

Fiorella noticed. You’re getting sloppy, Damon.

Watch your tone,I said quietly.

She smirked. It’s the truth. The great Damon Gravari doesn’t lose control for anyone.

Gabrielle isn’t anyone.

Her amusement faded. Then what is she?

I didn’t answer because I didn’t know.

The silence stretched until Fiorella turned on the ignition. I hope you know what you’re doing.

And what were you doing when you told her about the box?I asked. I know it was you.

She hesitated. She’s the one, Damon. Don’t screw it up. I hope you don’t get her killed in the process of this fight.

So do I,I said, leaning back as the city lights blurred past the window.

**

New York was exactly as I remembered it to be.

We stepped into the underground bar.

Low light poured from crystal chandeliers that dangled like captured stars, glinting off mirrors and bottles stacked in perfect order.

The air was heavy with thick smoke and expensive liquor. Strippers were lined up on the poles in the main hall, while some men threw bundles at them.

Across the hall, a man was taking a line and slipping his hand inside a woman’s bra. She giggled and took a line after him.

It was the perfect place for all sorts of debauchery.

“Gravari,Antonio’s voice boomed. We no longer see you around.

I turned to him. With good reasons. I came to talk. Let’s go somewhere private.

Antonio’s eyes fell on Fiorella. And you came with one of your pets. It must be serious. Come with me.

He led us to a more quiet section of the bar. Half naked women danced on the small stage to soft music. The men sat in small circles, no doubt taking money from the loan sharks.

Antonio stopped at a corner booth, waved two women away, and slid in first. He poured himself a drink before even looking at

  1. me.

You don’t visit for social calls, Damon. What is it this time?

I sat opposite him, unbuttoning my jacket. I want to buy Rocco Bellini off. And cut my ties with the underground world.

He searched my face for the laugh he thought was coming. Wait, you’re serious?

Fiorella shifted beside me.

Yes, Antonio,I said, taking a cigar from the table.

I lit it up and let the smoke curl lazily from my lips, savoring the burn as I watched his reaction.

He burst into a fit of laughter. Damon, you can’t buy Rocco Bellini off. It never happens. He’s big on loyalty, you know that.Yes, but his business was with my father,I said, taking another puff. Thisrelationship with him has cost me more than anything. I’m ready to give him whatever he wants but I want out. And you’re going to tell him for me.

Antonio leaned back, his dark eyes narrowing and calculating. You think money alone can erase a lifetime in this world?

I sighed. I made a promise to someone that I would clean my hands going forward and I intend to keep it.

He shook his head, laughing. I can’t believe this. Incredibile! You’re a force to be reckoned with, Damon. Why would you want to give up your seat?
