CHAPTER SIXTY THREE
DAMON’S POV
I had never been desperate…
At least, not since it all happened.
But as I sat in this club, drinking and discussing a very important topic, I realized I was desperate to leave.
Desperate to go home.
Fiorella was sitting a few distance from me, drinking and dancing with some girls I didn’t recognize.
I pulled my phone out of my pocket and checked the live camera footage. Gabrielle was in bed, going through her phone and drinking directly from a bottle of wine.
Why was she drinking?
Was it because of what I said last night?
Fuck.
Did she visit Emily again or did that bastard, Jared, reach out to her again?
My fist clenched instinctively. I knew I should have killed that bastard when I had the chance. It was one of the things I regret.
“I’m so sorry about that,” Antonio’s voice pulled me out of my head.
I kept my phone back. “No, you’re not. Part of you hoped he had succeeded in killing Gabrielle.”
He chuckled, taking a puff from his cigar. “Ah, I’m afraid you’re wrong. I’ve had the privilege of meeting your woman and I must say, she’s…. exquisite. And she has a big personality, a complete contrast to you.”
He paused as a waiter came to whisper in his ear. They talked for a few more seconds then the waiter left.
“As I was saying, I don’t want her dead,” he continued, a smile on his face. “I want her gone to somewhere Rocco can’t find, or better still end your marriage with her and let her go. That’s the only way to keep her safe.”
I kept my expression straight. “And who told you I care about her at all?”
“I might be wrong but I think you actually like this one,” he leaned back lazily. “The way you flung that man across the room that day got everyone talking about how she melted your cold heart, Gravari.”
I didn’t respond.
He wasn’t wrong.
And that irritated me more than anything.
“I’ve seen you with a dozen women,” Antonio continued. “You never looked twice at any of them. But this one? She crawls under your skin.”
“She’s just a responsibility,” I said.
“Keep lying to yourself,” he smirked. “But don’t lie to me.”
My jaw tightened.
The music pulsed, and strobe lights crossed the room, but all I could think about was her.
Alone, drinking and hurt.

And about the fact that 1 hadn’t told her I was leaving the city. I thought she wouldn’t care as she was still mad at me.
I reached for my phone again, searched for her number and called her but she didn’t pick up. I had just seen her with her phone so it was obvious she was ignoring me.
Antonio exhaled smoke. “Rocco just gave you a warning so you parading a wife around–one you actually seem to care about- is making it worse.”
I didn’t like the way he said that.
Like Gabrielle was a weakness.
Like she was leverage.
“Why did you marry her anyway?” he asked, curiosity dripping from every word. “Because she’s hot or something else?”
Something twisted in my chest but I didn’t answer because I didn’t know..
I poured myself another glass of whiskey, and drank it all at once, appreciating the burn as it passed through my chest.
Antonio lifted two fingers, and the girls who had been watching us all night practically sprinted over.
The one with short hair slid onto the seat beside him, already tracing patterns on his forearm.
The other with long hair sat beside me. She smiled and leaned in close. I could smell her perfume, something sweet and cheap.
Something that wasn’t a certain brunette’s.
I hated it immediately.
“I’ve been waiting for you to notice me all night,” she purred.
I didn’t bother looking at her. “I didn’t.”
Antonio burst into laughter. “My friend here isn’t very social.”
The girl shifted closer anyway, pressing her thigh against mine. I moved my leg away but she didn’t take the hint.
“Aren’t you going to buy me a drink?” she asked, touching my shoulder, and letting her hand linger.
My entire body stiffened in irritation. Her touch felt wrong, foreign, and unwelcome.
And all I could think of, annoyingly and inexplicably, was Gabrielle touching me the exact same way last night when we kissed.
I remembered her small hands and her soft palm. I remembered the way my name sounded on her lips-
I shut the thought down instantly.
The girl must’ve mistaken my silence for an invitation, because she leaned in, reaching for my tie as if fixing it.
A bold move.
I caught her wrist mid–air.
Gabrielle had ruined other women for me.
“I’m not interested,” I said, my voice dropping low enough that she froze.
Her eyes widened a little, probably not used to rejection and definitely not used to being handled like that.
Antonio raised a brow, smirking behind his cigar. “You really don’t want her?”
I released her hand. “No.”

The girl hesitated, offended and confused, before forcing a pout
“Do you prefer my friend instead?” she asked, trying to be playful. “Or both of us at the same time.”
Her friend who was sitting in Antonio’s lap giggled. “He’s so handsome. I wouldn’t mind that.”
“I could take her off your hands,” Antonio offered.
The girl leaned closer. “Or do you prefer to watch? I can give you a dance first and then you can decide”
Maybe that would work. And if it did, that would prove I didn’t care about Gabrielle more than I should.
“Go on.”
The words tasted bitter the moment they left my mouth.
Her face lit up instantly, like she thought she had won something worth celebrating. She stood up slowly, dragging her fingers
celebrating. up my arm as she moved to stand in front of me.
Antonio smirked knowingly, leaning back as the other girl giggled against him. “Finally,” he said. “He wakes up.”
The music thumped through the floor, low and heavy. The girl started moving her hips, her hands sliding up her own body.
I watched.
Or tried to.
But there was nothing.
Absolutely nothing.
There was no interest from me and it definitely wasn’t the distraction I’d hoped for.
Gabrielle had danced for me before.
I remembered the way her body swayed with the rhythm. How her creamy soft skin contrasted against the red lingerie set she was wearing. I could already feel myself getting hard just from the memory.
This girl wasn’t Gabrielle.
Was that why this wasn’t working?
