ACCIDENTALLY MARRIED TO THE BILLIONAIRE SINGLE DAD (Gabrielle and Damon) novel Chapter 89

CHAPTER EIGHTY NINE

DAMON’S POV

I parked the car in front of my father’s mansion.

Even though the place was long deserted and held traumatic memories for me, I still made sure I had the cleaning staff on payroll.

So when Selene led me there, alarm bells had already gone off in my head. She never did anything without a reason, and she would have never led me here unless she was certain of the outcome.

I stepped out of the car and shut the door, my gaze sweeping the compound out of habit. Everything still looked the same except for the fact that it was quiet now.

It used to feel like home to me but all I could feel when I stared at it wasnothing.

Oh, stop looking so grim, she said, a proud smile on her face. You’re going to be grateful when I show you what I did.

I let her lead the way, my gaze unwavering on her as she took me to the back of the main house, near the route to the staff quarters.

Memories I had tried to forget kept resurfacing with each step I took. Somehow, they crawled under my skin, reminding me of the torture I’d experienced within those walls.

She glanced back once and flashed me a smile. You look handsome today, by the way.Her smile faded. What the fuck am I talking about? Of course, you always look good.

I didn’t respond.

I just wanted to get Emily, if she was still alive, and get the fuck out of here. She led me through the gardens and paused at the small gate that led to an abandoned well.

I froze.

This was where Selene and I would sneak off to when we were teenagers. We’d kiss, hold hands, and stare at the stars until we heard our mothers calling for us.

And even then, we’d still stay out here until midnight. Then she’d go home and take a few scoldings from her parents.

But me?

I had to go to The Room.

If you brought me here for some stupid games be prepared to win stupid prizes,I deadpanned.

She turned around, her face innocent and her smile gone. Why do you think I’m playing games with you, Damon? I just want you to see what I did.

My jaw tightened. Then hurry the fuck up.

Her smile returned. Yes, Daddy.

She turned to the gate and brought out a key attached to the matching key chains that we used to share when we were younger.

I had long gotten rid of mine.

She slid the key into the lock and pushed the gate open.

The path beyond the gate was overgrown, weeds swallowing the stones we once walked barefoot.

The well stood at the center, old and cracked, with vines crawling up its sides like they were trying to drag it back into the earth.

She stepped aside dramatically. I had it cleaned, she said. The well, and the area too. I thought you’d want to see it.

I stared at it, my expression blank.

I didn’t,I said.

Her brows knit together, a flicker of something sharp passing through her eyes. You used to love this place.

I used to love a lot of things,I replied. I don’t anymore.

Her brows rose. Not even your wife?

I didn’t answer her question.

A faint irritation was already building in me. Where is Emily?I asked.

Her eyes narrowed but she didn’t push. She’s on the other side of the well. I wanted to have her thrown into the well but the water was dried up and

She kept talking but I had already blocked out her voice in my head.

I walked to the other side of the well and saw Emily on the floor, a bind around her wrists and ankles with a rag in her mouth,

unconscious.

I removed the cloth from her mouth and checked her pulse hoping she was still alive.

She was.

Barely.

There was dried blood on the side of her head that told me Selene had knocked her out.

Gabrielle would not like this.

I could already picture her eyes tearing up as she scolded me for having her evil twin being treated this way.

How did this happen?

She froze. You haven’t been listening to me? I just said it.

I turned to her. No, I haven’t. Repeat yourself.

She folded her arms across her chest, a frown on her forehead. I notice there were two Gabrielles at the party last night and 1 thought I was hallucinating or something.

I wished she’d just get to the point already.

Until Beatrice told me that your wife had a twin, she continued. After she told me everything, I decided to help Gabrielle. And now, here we are.

I walked towards her and from the look on my face she could tell I wasn’t impressed.

She took a step back.

At the party last night you wanted us to get back together,I said. Now you want to help my wife? What’s your angle, Selene?

Her smile returned, flirtier this time. I love the way you say my name. Tell me, do you still have your accent? Can you say thy name with it one more time?

Then she batted her eyelashes at me.

A gasp tore from her mouth as I wrapped my hand around her neck, pushing her back against the gate roughly.

I bared my teeth. What. Is. Your. Angle?”

Something flashed in her eyes but she caught herself quickly, a teasing smile on her face. You used to be such a gentle lover, Damon. But I don’t mind being manhandled by the new you.

I tightened my grip. I won’t ask you again.
