The moment he spoke, I lifted my head and looked at Graham.

“Yes, I went yesterday. I saw their condition. I did not like it. Madeline will worry for no reason,” Graham replied, speaking shamelessly in front of me.

I saw Penny lift her eyes toward me. Then she rolled them and looked away.

“I have made a decision too,” I announced.

The moment I spoke, all eyes turned toward me.

“How did you even walk to my room? I thought your leg was broken,” I taunted.

Then I quickly adjusted my tone.

“I mean, are you better now?” I added, pretending to be concerned.

She had already taken offense. Still, she gulped and stepped inside.

“Yes, I am better now. The medicine Madeline brought is working well,” she replied.

Of course, she did not miss the chance to praise Madeline.

“You came to say something?” I prompted, because I had no intention of standing with her for long.

“Yes. I just wanted to say take care of yourself and forget old grudges. We are not children anymore. We are both going to be mothers. We should act with sense and not against each other,” she explained.

She had the nerve to come here and act nice after she had influenced Lord Eldon’s opinion in Madeline’s favor.

I had begun to wonder if Graham was so desperate in love with Madeline because he now heard from everyone how sweet and kind she was.

“Yes, I will take care of myself. You should take care too,” I responded.

“You know, I have heard that sometimes accidents happen. You heard about Yuvonne losing her baby, right? I hope nothing like that happens to you,” I continued.
