As soon as I heard Elara cry, I rushed into the room and found Lady Eugenia doing what she did best. She held Elara by the arm, shaking her vigorously, almost animalistically.

"What the fuck is wrong with you?" I demanded, swooping in and pulling the little girl behind me.

I noticed Lady Eugenia had Bodhi behind her back.

Although he was crying, she would not let him get near his sister.

"What is wrong with me?" Lady Eugenia yelled at me.

I noticed she was suddenly quite upbeat.

Her voice was loud. The same Lady Eugenia who had been hiding for the past month was now so active and talkative.

"What is wrong with these kids? It seems as if their mother has not taught them anything," she screamed again, glaring at Elara as if she was going to pounce on her.

The worst part was that Madeline had only been gone for a few hours, and we had been doing our absolute best to find her.

Ron was working hard. I was going crazy. Honestly, every passing second felt like a step on my chest.

The fact that she was out there and probably in so much trouble angered me.

I just needed to get my hands on those pack members. I would not care before killing them.

And then there was Lady Eugenia. She was not making it easy either.

Since Lord Jonah had gone to look for Madeline and his son, Baxter, the children were left behind with this monstrous witch.

She was clearly playing favorites, being attentive to Bodhi but abusive toward Elara.

Bodhi had started to pick up on it, which was why he always resisted, and it only made her angrier.

I stomped in, pointing at Lady Eugenia while pulling Bodhi from behind her back.

The way he moved so quickly made it clear he had been waiting for someone to rescue him from this crazy lady.

"You cannot take him away! He is my grandson!" she hissed loudly, mentioning only Bodhi.

This was the kind of division she was creating between the two children.

From what I could tell, and from what Madeline had told me, Baxter had never made it clear to the kids that he was the father of only one of them.

I could see the confusion on Elara’s face.

I remembered how the others had already confused these children enough times.

They would claim one of them as their child, and in the next moment, they would want them gone.

Lady Eugenia was not helping either.

These children had lost both their father and mother within a few hours.

They needed comfort, not someone trying to control their lives.

"Just shut the fuck up," I warned Lady Eugenia, watching her eyes widen at the way I spoke to her.
