"Right now, you're going to tell me exactly what's going on," I demanded as Daniel dragged me toward a basement.

Earlier, we had spoken to Livia.

She told us a few things that immediately made Daniel cautious.

The call ended abruptly, and we concluded that she had either been arrested or something had happened to her.

We couldn't even call her back because her phone was switched off.

Daniel had rushed me out of his apartment and brought me deep into the woods, to the basement where he and Livia used to conduct their research in private.

To be honest, I didn't want to come, but he told me this was the only way I'd ever be reunited with my daughter, Gina.

"Okay, listen. I—" Daniel paused, cracking his knuckles.

"What?" I demanded.

"Look, from everything Livia told me, I've figured a few things out. But you might want to sit down first," he said, pointing to a stool that was far too small for my fucking ass.

"Tell me. What the fuck do you know?" I demanded.

He realized I wasn't joking anymore.

Taking a deep breath, he gave a small nod, as though encouraging himself to finally tell me the truth.

"It seems like—" He paused again, scratching the back of his neck. "It seems like your wife is also President Sawyer's wife."

The moment those words left his mouth, I went completely numb.

Earlier, when my werewolf had awakened, he hadn't remembered much.

His memories were slowly returning, or at least I believed they would.

For now, though, I had silenced him because the human world didn't allow werewolves.

End Of Flashback.

I woke up gasping, remembering a small piece of a conversation I'd had with Daniel.

I was sitting in the basement, wondering when he would return.

“Madeline,” I whispered her name to myself, and my wolf stirred awake.

I immediately rushed to the small bag Daniel had packed for me after he found out my wolf had woken up too.

"Don't do that," my wolf snapped, stopping me from taking another dose of wolfsbane to silence him.

"Listen, I'll talk to you later. Right now, this world is not where you should be showing yourself," I told my wolf, trying to silence him before anybody found out we were hiding in the basement bunker beneath a cabin.

I wasn't sure how he was going to react.
