Being back outside felt really good, but at the same time, I had to watch the woman who had been living in my mother’s body get taken away after she was arrested.

The worst part was that she was going to remain in prison looking exactly like my mother.

“I’ve been better,” I murmured, hugging him back as we made our way home from the burial.

But the problem was that the monster had disappeared, and so had Madeline.

Since she had been taken into the human world, we weren’t even sure if she was still alive.

We just got a news that the unconscious researcher was back.

We had no idea whether the humans would let her live.

We arrived at Rosetta’s mansion and found her standing in the garden, holding her phone to her ear.

Byron had refused to leave her mansion, and there seemed to be a silent agreement between the two of them because Rosetta hadn’t asked him why he was still staying there either.

“Okay. Well, I told you to chain that person up in the basement of the mansion whose address I gave you. Did you do it?” she questioned whoever was on the other end of the call while I waited to speak with her.

When that monster has arrived, that's when humans had also told us that their researcher showed up unconscious.

Meanwhile, Byron came outside holding two cupcakes.

The minute he saw us, he immediately pulled his hands back.

“Seriously? You’re trying to woo her?” Ron teased, approaching him and slapping a hand against his forehead.

“No. I just baked some cupcakes for her,” Byron muttered, lowering his eyes to the pink apron he was wearing.

He immediately tried to take it off while Ron laughed at him.

“Don’t do that. So what if he’s wearing an apron?” I scolded Ron, eyeing him.

“No, it’s just that he always acted like such a big, bad boy,” Ron remarked.

“Well, pink doesn’t make anyone less scary.” I warned him with my eyes not to put labels on people.

He immediately raised his hands. “I know, I know. But why are you baking for her?”

“Well, she’s lived a pretty dark life, so I decided to bring some color into it,” Byron explained with a cheeky grin.
