Livia:
“Is she okay?” I asked my mother as I watched Madeline go through a plethora of emotions.
She was sitting on the couch, staring into the distance.
She hadn’t moved a muscle since.
She wouldn’t even blink, just letting her tears fall freely.
At one point, I wondered if she was sleeping with her eyes open.
“She will be. She’s more powerful and stronger than both of us,” my mother said, hinting at the fact that Madeline had been through shit that we hadn’t.
And I understood where her anger was coming from.
While I had lived a rather peaceful life, the only real hurdle was my mother having to remarry a man to secure our safety when people were hovering around the two of us, and running away from that man.
But after that, everything went smoothly.
We didn’t really go through a lot. My mother worked daily jobs, but working hard was never a problem for us.
Our family, our bloodline, we were pretty hard workers.
But Madeline, she went through shit.
So it was understandable that, in the beginning, she had a lot of complaints.
My mother had to sit her down and tell her everything from the start.
From the rogue life to the curse and the separation.
“And people want me to go and help those people with their sickness?” Madeline finally let out a little whimper and buried her face in her hands.
I immediately rushed to her side, wrapping my arm around her.
This was the first time I felt as if I were the elder sister as I was born minutes before her.
I mean, Madeline had always been the strongest one.
I’d heard stories about her hard work and everything.
Although I’d never met her in person, I had seen her pictures.
Now I got to meet her and know her, and honestly, she was just wonderful.
So for me to be the one calming her down, it felt weird.
Madeline immediately hugged me back.
As we both cried, our mother came and sat beside Madeline, placing a hand on her thigh.
Madeline broke the hug and turned to our mother.
