Madeline:
Baxter had come out after convincing his wolf that he needed to put him to sleep.
He had a good excuse too: werewolves were coming over, and they would be able to smell such a powerful wolf on him.
So he put him to sleep.
Finally, we were together again, and Baxter told me that everything had worked.
Kaylee had not only bought the whole thing, but she had gone along with it.
That was exactly what I expected from her.
She was an opportunist.
She would do anything except change her ways.
The fact that she genuinely thought she could come here and steal Baxter from me made me so angry that I had to keep forcing myself to stay calm.
Now we were all sitting together, talking about almost everything, except for a few things Ron had said he still needed to tell me.
“What is it?” I asked.
We had already had an amazing dinner.
My children had spent most of their time playing with Yuvonne, while Ron caught up with Baxter.
I could tell Ron was a little upset that Baxter still didn’t have his memories.
“Sawyer is trying to prove himself within a week, and he plans to do it by killing the monster,” Ron said.
My heart immediately skipped a beat.
“Well, he can’t do that,” I said. “I mean, the monster isn’t bothering anyone, is he?”
Judging by the way they looked at me, they could already hear the difference in my tone whenever I mentioned the monster.
And I knew my argument wasn’t entirely fair.
People were being affected by it.
“The thing is, Sawyer claims the monster is directly connected to the children being in pain,” Ron explained.
Yuvonne nodded beside him, making it clear they had already discussed this back in the werewolf world.
“Well, that’s not true,” I said, drawing in a deep breath. “What does Rosetta say about it?”
Her name came out of my mouth almost too quickly.
Ron and Yuvonne exchanged another glance.
Even my mother began rubbing her hands together anxiously, waiting to hear whether our suspicions were actually true.
If they were, then it meant we had found each other again.
“Well, Rosetta is going to prevent it.”
The moment Ron said that, a spark of hope lit inside me.
I smiled at my mother before glancing at Livia, who was quietly smiling too.
“I mean, there are some other things you should know,” Ron said, shifting on the sofa before his gaze moved to Baxter. “You had a sister who passed away, remember?”
Baxter lowered his head, then slowly shook it.
