Gideon grabbed Lilith's hands, stopping her from scratching frantically at her skin. "Lilith, try to hold on."
He looked at Charles. "Sedative?"
Charles, unable to bear seeing Lilith in such pain, reluctantly nodded.
After the nurse administered the sedative, Lilith quickly fell into a deep sleep.
"But she can't keep going on like this, can she?" Flora sank into a chair, wiping her tears. "Using sedatives will damage her nerves..."
Charles's breathing was heavy.
Lilith's addiction was far worse than Charles had expected, likely because the final version of the drug Hazel had developed contained a higher dose.
That was why Lilith was like this.
If she went without the drug for too long, Lilith would probably lose her mind.
"Why is Lilith's life so hard? Her life was stolen as a child, and now she's lying in a hospital bed with no cure..."
Flora sobbed.
Charles gently pulled Flora into his arms to comfort her.
Two police officers knocked and entered, flashing their badges. "Excuse me, who is Ms. Flora?"
Flora looked up from Charles's embrace, confused. "I am. What's this about?"
The two officers exchanged a look. "You are a person of interest in a criminal investigation. You need to come with us for questioning."
Flora's face changed. "A criminal investigation? How could I possibly be involved in a criminal case?"
Charles stood up, shielding Flora, who quickly grabbed the corner of his shirt.
"Officers, could you tell us what this is about? I'm Flora's fiancé."
The officer handed Charles a warrant. "Flora is a suspect in a case involving school bullying, threats, and slander from several years ago. We are taking her into custody. Please cooperate."
Gideon watched Charles's anxious expression and raised an eyebrow.
The stronger their relationship, the more Aria would be forced to give up hope.
Although Aria was carrying his child now, her heart hadn't surrendered. He couldn't let Aria drive a wedge between them.
Gideon said, "I can lend you the lawyers from Evercrest Prosperity Holdings. If you win the case, I want you to sue Aria for slander."
Charles was surprised. "Don't you consider Aria your wife?"
"The institute won't have a woman with a criminal record. This is the only way she'll focus on her pregnancy at home."
"The pregnancy?"
Charles nervously clenched his hands. The image of Aria as a mother clouded his expression.
"Alright."
