"What are you doing?"
Aria frowned when she saw Roxanne hand over an employment contract.
"I asked about Lilith's condition. This addiction is hard to kick. So if she can't kick it, we won't."
Roxanne had gone to see Lilith in her hospital room first. Charles, afraid Roxanne couldn't handle the truth about the extent of the damage to Lilith's body, had downplayed the severity.
He had only told her about the addiction.
In Roxanne's eyes, that wasn't a big deal. The family had money. Since she was addicted, and it wasn't like it was illegal, they could just supply her with the drug.
Aria immediately understood that Charles must have minimized the situation.
"You're harming Lilith," Aria said. "With long-term use of that drug, she'll die."
"After all the suffering you've put my daughter through, how much longer does she have to live?" Roxanne sneered.
"From the initial misdiagnosis to this medical malpractice, you knew everything, didn't you? You just watched it all unfold. I just want my daughter to feel a little better!"
Hazel saw the employment contract and her eyes lit up. She quickly flipped to the salary section and saw it was similar to her current pay.
Without any hesitation, Hazel signed the contract.
Mr. and Mrs. Quinn's expressions softened when they saw Hazel had signed another contract. They demanded a few thousand dollars from her and left.
"Hmph. A crummy research institute putting on airs. Plenty of people want my daughter!"
Aria looked at Roxanne, wanting to try and reason with her again.
But Roxanne cut her off. "Aria, I've changed my mind. You were the one who wanted to sever ties with the Rowan family. I've given you almost ten years."
"If you can't give me thirty million dollars within two weeks, I won't sever our ties. You'll never be free of the Rowan family."
"Thirty million! Where am I supposed to get thirty million dollars?!"
