"In my heart, there's only him."
It had been ten years since she first found Rufus, and in all that time, they had spent more time apart than together.
But the memories they did have were enough for Aria to cherish.
She wasn't going to wait for Rufus to die just to get a new puppy and transfer her feelings for him onto it.
To Aria, that felt completely wrong.
After making sure Rufus was settled, Aria headed back toward the gala.
She walked quickly and was out of sight in a moment.
"Gideon!"
Lilith, wearing a pink, long-sleeved princess dress, trotted up to Gideon, slightly out of breath.
"I asked a servant, and they said you were here, so I came to find you!"
Lilith had lost so much weight recently that she could no longer fill out her other dresses.
She was gaunt, so she could only choose long dresses and gowns.
No matter how exquisite her makeup was, you could still see the hint of illness on her small face.
"What are you doing here? There are so many people. This is reckless."
Gideon said in a low voice, "Your blood counts are low, and you were sick just yesterday. Why are you being so willful today?"
"Today is Grandma's seventieth birthday gala. I didn't want to miss it." Lilith bit her lip gently and whispered, "Actually... I overheard you and the doctor the other day."
She knew she didn't have much time left.
Because of Aria, Dawn, the one person who could save her, refused to help. And she couldn't stand the thought of Aria giving birth to Gideon's child.
Even if she wanted to use the baby's cord blood now, she knew her own life was on a countdown.
