After All the Hurt, She Chose Herself novel Chapter 145

Aria paid her no mind.

She was actually hoping her relationship with Gideon wouldn't be made public today.

It would save her from becoming the subject of everyone's gossip.

"I really don't know what the old master was thinking. Rejecting a proper lady for a..." Eveline sized Aria up. "...promiscuous tramp."

She kept her voice low, so no one else would hear.

But Aria heard her loud and clear.

"What did you say? Some tramp is seducing a married man?" Aria's voice, unlike Eveline's, was not lowered. "I can't believe such a thing."

Since Aria and Gideon's relationship was already the talk of the party, at the sound of Aria's voice, people's gazes drifted toward them, intentionally or not.

Eveline's face flushed. "What are you talking about? I would never say something like that!"

Aria just said, "Oh. Then I must have misheard."

"Sister, you're here too?" Lilith, hearing the commotion, approached with Gideon on her arm. "Gideon and I didn't see you."

Lilith's gaze fell on Aria's dress. Aria was thin, but not in the same sickly way as Lilith. With her fair skin and tall, slender figure, standing next to her made Lilith seem shrunken and frail.

Lilith noticed this too and subconsciously leaned closer to Gideon.

Gideon, thinking Lilith was feeling unsteady, wrapped an arm around her to hold her up.

The situation was complicated. He would explain everything to Aria later; this just wasn't the right time or place.

Harold approached, holding a glass. "Aria, we haven't seen each other in a while. How about we have a drink? It's just water instead of wine."

He had just been near Helena and gotten the gist of the situation. Since the Brent family intended to match Gideon with Lilith, he figured he would just go with the flow and take Aria for himself.
