“She dares to say I harmed Lilith?” Roxanne was incredulous, clutching Charles’s hand. “Charles, tell me, did I harm Lilith?”
“She’s my daughter! How could I possibly harm her?”
Charles pressed his lips together, silent.
In truth, they were largely to blame for Lilith’s current state. They had been too self-righteous.
First, the misdiagnosis that caused Lilith to miss the optimal treatment window, followed by the drug use, which Roxanne had allowed to become excessive…
Every step they took only seemed to be for Lilith’s good.
But Charles couldn’t say those words out loud.
Flora perceptively stepped in to help Charles support Roxanne.
When the ambulance arrived, Gideon carried Lilith onto it. He glanced back in the direction Aria had gone, but ultimately got into the ambulance himself.
Aria was pregnant, but she didn’t seem to be in any discomfort.
He, on the other hand, was responsible for Lilith's current condition, and she needed someone by her side.
The Brent family was already in chaos. He needed to stay with Lilith now.
“Flora, you’ve had a long day. You should go rest. I’ll handle things here.”
Flora shook her head. “I’m much better, Charles. Please let me stay and help you.”
Charles noted that Flora’s complexion indeed showed no signs of discomfort, and his heart sank a little further.
At that moment, he almost wished she was feeling unwell.

Aria’s lower abdomen still ached with a heavy, dragging pain.
But Charles was right. Raphael was still an Evernight, and the Evernight family valued its heirs so highly. If they knew she’d already had an abortion…
“I’ll pay you back the thirty million as soon as I can.”
“We’re family. Don't even mention it.”
Raphael glanced at Aria as he drove. “You look pale. Should we go to the hospital?”
Aria shook her head. “I’ll be fine after some rest.”
Raphael didn’t insist. Instead, he turned the steering wheel and headed back to the Evernight estate.
