“Charles, Lilith knows what happened to Harold, so she sent me to plead with you on his behalf.”
Flora pushed a file across the table to Aria. “This is the deed to that house. If you agree to let Harold go, the house is yours.”
Charles seemed uncertain. “Is this… the house Lilith used to live in?”
Flora nodded. “Lilith said that while the house is very important to her, she can’t bear to see the Brent family in such a difficult position.”
How noble of her.
If Lilith truly valued that house, it wouldn’t have been collecting so much dust.
She was just trying to manipulate Aria.
Roxanne had already threatened Aria with the house once, and Aria wasn’t going to back down this time.
“How touching. You make it sound like I’m stealing the house my mother left to her daughter. If living somewhere long enough makes it yours, then I lived in the Rowan estate for over a decade. Does that mean Lilith is no longer a Rowan?”
“I am my mother’s daughter. The house was always meant to be mine. Don’t stand here trying to threaten me with your little act.”
With her connection to the Brent family severed, Aria no longer bothered to hide her temper.
After years of fighting her way up in the professional world, she had developed a commanding presence. She spoke calmly, but her tone was firm and powerful.
Charles hadn’t expected Aria to be so sharp-tongued.
Flora suddenly raised an eyebrow. “It seems you still don’t know about your origins. Charles, are we really not going to tell her?”
Aria frowned. “What do you mean?”
Charles’s gaze darkened. Since Aria wasn't responding to either threats or kindness, he saw no reason to hold back.
“Aria, you’re actually an illegitimate daughter of the Rowan family,” Charles said, staring at Aria’s face. “You really are Nathan’s daughter. Otherwise, why would the Rowans have kept you after they found out you weren’t their biological child?”
Flora gloated, covering her mouth as her eyes crinkled into a smile. “Oh, Aria, you poor thing. Your mother was just a mistress. And she didn't even buy this house. Mr. Rowan paid for it. There’s proof of payment in the documents. Even though the title is in your mother’s name, the actual ownership belongs to the Rowan family.”
“As for who the house belongs to, of course it’s the Rowans!”
