How could Aria have a miscarriage?
And how was it so severe that she needed her uterus removed?
"Aria, you're lying to me, aren't you? I know this was my fault, but don't use the baby and your own health to make me regret it. You're lying, right?"
Gideon snapped back to reality and began pounding on the car window.
Aria's ears were ringing from the noise. "I don't want to see him."
The car shot forward like an arrow released from a bow.
"A family member needs to sign here."
The hospital had already coordinated everything and was just waiting for Aria to be taken into surgery.
The nurse handed the consent form to Raphael.
"Give it to me. I'll sign," Aria said, pushing herself up. "He's not my family."
The young nurse was a little surprised. The man before her seemed deeply concerned for the patient, even bringing in a specialist for the operation. They weren't a couple?
Raphael took the form, signed his name with a smooth, fluid motion, and handed it back to the nurse.
"I am family. I will be here the entire time. You are to inform me of any issues."
He then turned to look at Aria.
"It will go smoothly."
Aria had been feeling anxious about the surgery, but Raphael's words brought a strange sense of calm to her heart.
She nodded.
The red light above the operating room door lit up.
By the time Gideon arrived, Aria had already been in the operating room for over ten minutes.
Raphael was sitting on a bench, his back perfectly straight. He sat there quietly, his lips pressed into a tight line.
He was nervous, too. Worried.
"Raphael! You've overstepped! Aria is my wife!"
Gideon's gaze turned sharp. "Raphael, you're making a move against your own family? Grandpa will not let you get away with this when he finds out!"
Raphael remained unmoved. "Right now, it's just a few contracts. Later, it won't be."
When Henry arrived, he had noticed Raphael immediately.
It was simply because Raphael was too dazzling.
He exuded the air of a nobleman, captivating enough just sitting there. When he spoke, it was with a calm, confident ease.
He was self-assured and composed.
Henry knew a little about the Evernight family's affairs.
Weren't there rumors that the second Evernight son was a sickly invalid? That he'd been abroad for years seeking treatment with little success, and could be gone any day?
But seeing him today, that didn't seem to be the case at all.
He even seemed more like a person in power than Gideon, not at all like a man on his deathbed.
And despite being abroad for so many years, he had been back for less than a few months and had already managed to sabotage several of Gideon's major contracts in such a short time.
