“Shut up! Do you think there haven’t been enough misunderstandings between Aria and me?”
Aria looked like she wanted nothing to do with them, but Gideon couldn’t help but feel annoyed.
It was the countless misunderstandings that had driven them apart.
Ever since he learned that Aria wasn’t the type to drug someone, Gideon found himself constantly thinking about the time before their marriage.
Back then, he had been full of ambition, determined to build his own career without relying on the Evernight family. It was Aria who had approached him, saying she wanted to work with him.
He had asked her what she wanted in return.
Aria said, “Money. I want a lot of money.”
He had privately labeled her as vain and materialistic.
But as they spent more time together, he discovered she was incredibly capable and persistent. She needed money and a platform, and Gideon provided them.
And so, Aria became his most effective weapon.
Their relationship grew closer, their partnership more seamless.
Gideon’s voice choked with emotion. “Aria, we were in love… we really were.”
He only now understood that the way Aria had looked at him back then was with love, and he, in turn, had fallen for her without even realizing it.
It was too late for words now. He could only beg Aria to give him a chance to win back what he had lost.
Aria sneered. “Gideon, you’re even willing to say things like that just to save your own skin. I look down on you.”
He found out his genetic disease might be flaring up, so he comes here to play the victim and try to get her to treat him?
In his dreams.
She used to personally prepare special meals for his health based on his condition, but he took it for granted and even thought she had ulterior motives.
Now he was begging her, wanting to go back to how things were.
“Didn’t you used to say I was just a gold digger? Why the change of heart? If you had defended Lilith Rowan your whole life, I might have at least considered you a man of principle. But now you’re afraid of dying, aren’t you?”
