The nurse emerged with the medical cart, and now Raphael was the only one left waiting outside.
The nurse was aware of the trending topics over the past few days, but watching the two of them interact, she felt that the online rumors must be baseless.
Aria had been in such a dangerous situation; anyone could see that.
Yet she had been so wrongly accused, and now, because of public opinion, she was hurt again.
The nurse felt another wave of sympathy for Aria.
“Mr. Evernight, her dressing has been changed. Thankfully, the wound didn’t tear completely. It should heal with some medicated spray.”
Raphael nodded and entered the room.
“I’ve taken the man to the police station. We should have some answers soon.”
“The most important thing is his camera.”
Aria was sitting up in bed, her face still pale. “The security here should be decent, but for him to get in so easily… I think something’s wrong.”
A VIP wing in a hospital had better security than the regular wards, yet the man had not only found her but had also managed to get into her room.
It was definitely not a coincidence.
“When he came in, he recognized me instantly, as if he knew for sure I’d be here.”
“Flora,” Raphael said. “She was outside just now.”
Aria lowered her gaze. “That explains it.”
Flora was probably the only one with the energy to keep targeting her like this.
“I don’t have any proof yet. If we want to make her pay, we should wait until she contacts the attacker.”
“Alright, we’ll do it your way,” Raphael said. “But you’re not safe here anymore. You should be discharged. I’ll take you back to the Evernight estate.”
Aria was silent for a moment. “No, I don’t want to go back.”
“At least let me take care of you.” Raphael sat by her bed. “You refused the private nurse I hired for you, but I don’t want a close call like this to happen again.”
If Aria hadn't had something to defend herself with, the consequences would have been unimaginable.
Even without solid evidence, Raphael had no intention of letting the Keene Group off easy.
The word made Aria feel sick to her stomach.
She once wished Gideon would call her that, that they could live like a real married couple.
Now, she just wanted to keep her distance from him.
“As long as we’re not divorced, you’re still my wife.”
Gideon knelt by Aria’s bed, his voice hoarse. “I truly know I was wrong. Wife, can you please give me another chance?”
“Son, why are you begging her? You have no idea how infamous she’s become these past few days!”
Eveline scoffed and grabbed Gideon’s arm.
“Get up! Aria can’t even have children now, what’s the use of keeping her? With your status, you can find any woman you want!”
“And she’s got something shady going on with Raphael. No wonder the Rowan family disowned her. If I were the Rowans, I’d be ashamed too!”
Raphael’s tone held a clear warning. “Eveline, we all know what happened. Be careful what you say.”
Eveline snorted defiantly. “Well, I’ve never seen such a shameless woman in my life!”
