After All the Hurt, She Chose Herself novel Chapter 214

Hazel was stunned, her voice filled with disbelief. “How could Aria possibly get a national patent?!”

They were working on the same research, so why could Aria succeed where she couldn’t? Was Alden hiding things, giving all the best opportunities to Aria?

“Professor, I was one of the original creators of this research too! Why wasn’t I notified? I have a fifty percent stake in this project! Why can’t I come and look at it?!”

Alden sneered.

She really wouldn’t give up until she hit a wall.

“Who told you the entire project was selected by the government? Let me tell you, Aria has developed a drug that can restore nerve function without an antidote. What does that have to do with you?”

Hazel’s eyes widened. “Impossible! That’s impossible! At most, Aria only managed to improve the existing antidote! How could she discard all our research and develop a more advanced drug in such a short time?!”

She refused to believe it!

But the person in question was Aria—the prodigy who had been admitted to the research institute at eighteen, who had studied under Alden and Charles, and who held more patents than she could count on both hands.

She used to be able to delude herself into thinking Charles had simply given his own patents to Aria.

Now, she finally saw the gap between them for what it was.

An insurmountable chasm.

All her sleepless nights of research couldn’t compare to Aria’s one month back at the institute.

More than her own failure, what Hazel couldn’t accept was the crushing realization that she would never, ever surpass Aria.

“Since you’re unwilling to talk, we’ll see you at the police station.”

Alden took out his phone to make the call.

Raphael sat on the edge of Aria’s bed and leaned in to look at her phone. “The bodyguards said she took a pretty hard fall when she was trying to run.”

That explained it.

Hazel was in charge of Lilith’s medication. There was no way Roxanne would mistreat her. It was obvious Hazel was lying!

She was trying to exploit her professor’s compassion!

Aria’s eyes turned cold as she dialed the police.

Hazel claimed she was a victim of domestic abuse. She was an adult now, capable of supporting herself. She could have sought help, but she didn’t. And now she wanted to use that story to escape punishment? Not a chance.

“Hello, I want to report a crime. Someone is stealing state secrets at the Flourish Research Institute. Please send officers immediately! It’s in Research Building One, Lab 109!”
