“And what about all that talk online? You’re just going to let it go?” Alden added, glaring at Raphael. “Just going to wash your hands of it and leave Aria to fend for herself?”
Raphael felt a little wronged. Aria had been the one collecting evidence. If he had forcibly deleted all those posts, she would have taken all that heat for nothing.
But Alden was clearly concerned for Aria, standing up for her. At least Aria wasn't alone anymore.
“You’re right, Dr. Reaves. I’ll handle it as soon as possible.”
Aria’s phone chimed twice. She picked it up, and her eyes lit up.
“My lawyer says they’ve preserved all the false statements on the blockchain. I don’t have to worry about anything now.”
Aria’s fingers flew across the keyboard as she typed: [Yes, proceed with the lawsuit now. I’ll fight them to the bitter end, no matter the cost!]
Alden was puzzled. “Fighting back?”
Aria nodded. “Professor, originally… Raphael was going to handle it for me, but I didn’t want to let these people off the hook. So I hired a lawyer to prepare a class-action lawsuit. I have all the evidence I need now.”
And then there was the Rowan family. The statement they released didn't mention the thirty million dollars she had transferred, and it only served to stir up the online mob against her again. She wouldn't let them get away with it, either.
With that thought, Aria posted a formal notice from her lawyer directly to her social media page. She followed it up with the complete, signed agreement with the Rowan family and a screenshot of the thirty-million-dollar transfer record. Finally, she uploaded an audio recording from the police station of Nathan Rowan pointing a finger in her face and screaming at her.
She had been worried something like this might happen, so she had started recording before they even approached her. She hadn't expected it to actually come in handy.
“Professor…” Aria was so moved that tears welled up in her eyes. “Thank you!”
Alden’s profile picture was a bamboo forest, and his previous username had been ‘TheEvergreen.’ Aria knew this because, for the past few days, an account with that name had been fiercely defending her in the comments, tearing into her critics. She should have realized it was Alden all along.
“Look at you, getting all emotional,” Alden snorted. “Now hurry up and get some rest.”
On the way back, Aria thought that since her professor had publicly acknowledged her, she should add some real information to her own bio. Sitting in the car, she recalled all the prestigious awards she had won and listed them. She also uploaded photos of her award ceremonies that she had saved in her cloud storage.
All in all, there were over a dozen major and minor awards. Aria considered some of them too trivial to include, but even so, the resume was enough to shock anyone.
[GoodChoice: Goddess! You’re my idol! Love you!]
