The Evernight family? *The* Evernight family?
All eyes instinctively turned toward the source of the voice.
Raphael was smiling warmly.
Most people instantly recognized him as the man from the gossip columns, linked to Aria.
He was a member of the Evernight family?
“Wait, could he be… the frail second son of the Evernight family?!”
Aria’s seminar had attracted a number of influential people, some of whom knew a thing or two about the Evernights.
A collective gasp went through the knowledgeable few. Those who knew of Raphael had assumed he was on his deathbed, having heard no news of him for over a decade. But looking at him now, this Mr. Evernight hardly seemed ill.
Had he recovered and returned to the country?
If that was the case, then Gideon was no longer the sole heir to the Evernight fortune.
Raphael was using this opportunity to announce his return and demonstrate his restored health to everyone.
It was both low-key and incredibly bold.
Aria was no fool. It took her only a few seconds to understand Raphael’s intention.
It was a power play.
However, he wasn’t disrupting her plans. In fact, he had helped her. Since he wanted to use her seminar to make an intimidating statement, Aria didn’t mind helping him set the stage.
She nodded. “Of course, Mr. Evernight. We can discuss the details in person.”
Raphael smiled and nodded back.
Flora gritted her teeth so hard they might crack.
She felt like a clown. While Aria’s evidence wasn’t enough to get her arrested on the spot, she had been humiliated once again. And in front of so many people. Now, with Raphael publicly expressing his admiration and desire to partner with Aria, her reputation was soaring.
Aria couldn’t help but laugh. “What on earth are you talking about? Didn’t Professor Alden tell you?”
“Huh? Tell me what?” Mira blinked, then quickly turned to Alden. “Professor, what were you supposed to tell me?”
Alden looked at her with exasperation. Why did everyone seem to want to cling to Aria?
He irritably tossed a contract onto the table. “This is your chance to get into a higher-level research lab.”
Mira could hardly believe her eyes. She snatched the contract and flipped through it. When her gaze landed on the project code “GJ101,” she let out a shriek of joy.
“I can get in? I can really get in? I CAN GET IN?!”
“I knew my connection with Aria wasn't over! Oh, thank goodness! Aria! We’re going to be colleagues again!”
Aria was caught off guard as Mira threw her arms around her in a tight hug. Her body instinctively stiffened.
But Mira didn’t notice, shaking Aria back and forth in her excitement.
