After All the Hurt, She Chose Herself novel Chapter 23

It was Gideon.

The man’s cold eyes swept over Aria before he looked away.

“Mrs. Rowan, Lilith said she wants to be discharged tomorrow and go home. We’ll need you to pay close attention to her diet for the next few days.”

Aria felt a surge of humiliation.

In their three years of marriage, Gideon had never accompanied Aria on a visit to her family, and he still addressed her parents formally as “Mr. and Mrs. Rowan.”

Except for their closest circle, the public still thought Gideon was one of the city’s most eligible bachelors.

Roxanne instinctively frowned. “That’s absurd. She’s sick, she should stay in the hospital!”

Henry stepped forward, looked at Roxanne, and explained, “This was Ms. Rowan’s idea. Besides, the doctor said that a relaxed state of mind would be good for her recovery.”

Seeing that Gideon had nothing more to say, Roxanne had no choice but to agree.

It seemed Gideon was very devoted to Lilith.

Roxanne stopped arguing. “Fine. I’ll have the staff disinfect the house right away.”

After making the call on her phone, she looked at Aria. “Don’t come back to the house for the next few days. We don’t want Lilith to see you and get upset.”

“I wasn’t planning on it.”

Aria had her own things to do. She took a step toward the elevator.

Henry glanced at Gideon’s expression and raised a hand to block the elevator door. “Ms. Rowan, what are you doing here?”

Henry’s eyelid had been twitching ever since he saw Aria.

As Gideon’s assistant, he knew a few things about the Rowan family, including that Aria was the disfavored daughter who had to fend for herself.

Letting her go up now would only upset Lilith.

“Move. I’m going up!”

Aria rarely spoke so harshly.

She had been Gideon’s longest-serving assistant and had perfectly mastered his intimidating aura.

It was only because of her usually mild-mannered nature and her desire to maintain peace with her colleagues that she never made a scene.

Whenever anything involved Lilith, she was protected from all sides, as if Aria herself were a deadly virus.

It was nighttime, so there weren't many people around.

Aria was shoved into the car like a criminal.

She turned to escape, but Henry was faster, locking the doors immediately.

The phone rang.

It was her professor.

Aria answered, but before she could speak, his disappointed voice filled her ear.

“Aria, sometimes I’m truly glad you never fully entered the field of pharmaceutical research. It would be far too cruel for a patient to be given a glimmer of hope, only to have you snatch it away again.”

“Don’t you feel like an executioner?”

Her professor hung up without giving her a chance to respond.
